What is the law for transporting these weapons?

A gun is just a firearm.  It is not a weapon until it is used as such.  I really wish people would stop universally referring to firearms as weapons.

Your firearms are covered by FOPA.

In NJ you'd want to follow the transport laws here, so guns unloaded in separate container from ammo, in the trunk or back of the storage area out of reach of the driver.  Shooting range in South Carolina seems like a permissible destination.

You'll want to check the rules for Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina as well (presuming that's your route)..

If any state on your trip will jack your drawers it will Maryland.  No nothing, stops, speeding, etc.  Just plain stay out of DC  If in western SC consider traveling I78,81,77 to Columbia and west.  Lot less traffic easier driving.
