"Ready Player One" Movie

Recommended Posts

Not for nothing.  But if the movie mirrored the book there would be some quite boring parts.  No one wants to watch a marathon game of Joust or a perfect Pac Man game.  Changes had to be made to keep the audience enthralled.  That being said, the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.  I believe the only one to come close was Peter Jackson with LOTR.  He did an amazing job of keeping as close to the books as possible IMO.....

My short list of as good as or better movies.

The Princess Bride = as good as. Narratively it is very similar, just book format humor has been swapped with movie friendly humor.  Movie might peak a bit higher on the humor scale and the humor is more accessible to a wider audience.

LOTR = better than the books. Pretty much cut out all the painfully boring parts.

Fight club = better than the book. Mostly the movie is like if the book got edited again but very well, and a lot of the stuff just works better in the medium of film.

JAWS = it just works better visually.

Three days of the condor = The book is kind of a turd. The rights were bought before the books was finished, and it was clearly the story was fleshed out by a MUCH, MUCH better writer than the book had. Also, still really relevant to this day.

A clockwork orange = better than the book. The book is a hard read and not really as visceral.
