Buying a gun in NJ by Katie Park.

Recommended Posts

Also, every 'anti' statistic is cited for "gun deaths."  That statistic includes events like suicides, accidental shootings, legitimate police killings of criminals and so on.

Change the statistic to "gun homicides" and the state-by-state picture is very, very different.  Look at the bottom 10.  Where are CA and NJ?  And how strict are the laws in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota?

Not to mention that DC has among the strictest laws (thus Heller vs. DC) but the highest death rate:

Actually Minnesota and now Colorodo laws suck too. They are blue states.

They met you FTF and still continued with the transaction???

It was dark out and he was more concerned with getting out of dodge and moving to Florida. Which I couldn't blame him at all. I was actually a little jealous....until a few months later when Florida turned Anti too.

Awesome graphs capt14k. Also I am not sure if this is correct, but I believe some of these studies also define "children" as various ages up to as high as 26. So the inflated numbers of "dead children" bring up horrific images but in reality are referring to mostly adults in gangs killing each other.

Also speaking of gangs, I'd love to see these results broken down by county or better yet  ZIP code instead of state. Even a high murder place like Louisiana, I'd like to see how what precentage of those numbers come specifically out of a city like New Orleans compared to some boring normal suburb just outside of it.

 lies, damned lies, and statistics

I wish everyone would stop using state by state or country by country statistics. It really tells us nothing about crime rates. There are many factors that account for crimes. For example: poverty and gangs. In order for a statistic to be valid there has to be some causality between the factor being considered and the crime. The ease of citizens getting guns has been pretty much shown to have no negative effect on crime. Just look at the crime statistics over the last 20 years in states that have allowed citizens to carry guns. There are areas in each state that account for the vast majority of the crime. If one averages in the "good" areas, states can boast that they have lower crime rates. This is bogus. End of my rant.

Very true. I saw some data recently where they drilled down deeper than State and deeper than county for homicides. They looked at it from a city by city level. When you remove the top 4 - 6 cities (Chicago, New Orleans, Baltimore and a few more), the gun violence level in our country approaches some of the more peaceful countries.

Yup, but it was published, just not widely disseminated - https://www.nap.edu/read/18319/chapter/3

I think @Zeke was referring to a more recent controversy...? The link you provided was the one the CDC released during the Obama administration - in which, on the one hand, they admitted DGU's were "common" - but on the other hand, they hemmed and hawed and said "gee, the studies vary widely... we really need more studies to validate this" etc.

Within the last few days, it turns out that one of the top researchers, Gary Kleck, whose studies show DGUs are very common... stumbled upon UNPUBLISHED data from the CDC. The CDC had added DGU questions to some large sweeping survey and conducted it 3 years in a row. Their findings appear to align with Kleck's data - and yet they NEVER published it. So, think about that for a minute - to be squawking "we need more data to validate this" - but then to SIT on your own data that does validate it.

It seems they buried their own data because it showed something they didn't want to see - data that didn't align with the agency's known anti-gun stance. Here's one of the articles describing the recent controversy: https://www.ammoland.com/2018/04/cdc-failed-to-report-strong-evidence-of-defensive-gun-uses/#axzz5EML6LUus

Kudos on a fair and balanced article. There’s always going to be errata (even we don’t get all the facts right amongst ourselves). I’m glad she hooked up with Rosie and Ant.

People need to hold their fire the next time a reporter comes around trying to do research and asking in a humble manner. Some of y’all act like sexually frustrated guys at the bar who unload their neuroses on any girl that is willing to listen to them.

Didn’t the shooting in San Bernardino take place with AK and not AR rifles?

ar's that i believe were legally purchased, and illegally modified.

also......printed article just came out in todays courier post. i'll read it tonight, even though i read the online version to see if i change my opinion. while it's more "fair" than any i've seen, it still has what i perceive to be an "anti" slant.

I remember San Bernardino was 3 athletic white male shooters who morphed into Muslim husband and wife.

I know, I know fog of war that causes multiple witnesses to see the same thing.

Or their attorney saying they were found dead handcuffed in the SUV. That was one hell of a trick driving dead and handcuffed.

^^^She quit.  She & I had several phone conversations and it came-up during one of these interviews for the story that was just published.  She had given appropriate notice and was moving to metro Philly to accept the new position.  FWIW, when they fire you for cause, you're handed a box & told to clean-out yer desk & escorted by security to the door :)

^^^Yes they really do THAT!  In fact it's become SOP at a LOT of companies.  It's so you don't use your computer to destroy or alter data that belongs to the employer.  In some positions, the computer is confiscated by the IT Dept. to be analyzed for any harmful viruses, porn, illegal activity or anything else that could cause the company troubles.  Laptops too.  You walk-out with the clothes on yer back & a box of yer sh!t.

Yes most larger companies do that. Some they clean out your desk for you while you are in office being fired. Monster Energy is one of the worst. They fire you over the phone over the weekend and mail you your personal effects. A friend is a Director there. They make the Directors make the phone calls. Most places I think HR handles it.
