BlueLineFish 615 Posted June 13, 2018 Looking to get an mp5 variant. Looking for opinions on what's out there
Screwball 483 Posted June 13, 2018 Closest thing I got is a GSG-5...Supposedly, PTR was coming out with a clone, but think it was just in pistol form thus far. Check last SHOT Show coverage... want to say a rifle was planned.
fatty 241 Posted June 13, 2018 Oh god I want one of those so bad... too bad the only variants we can have are the ones with the fake cans welded on There's one listed for sale on ARFCOM.... usually dumb expensive

silverado427 10,552 Posted June 13, 2018 I had a Zenith TV once.
Malice4you 627 Posted June 14, 2018 Wasn't Palmetto supposedly doing one? Just like screwball, closest I've got is a GSG-522SD... Believe me, I want one in a real caliber, as MP5s have always been a favorite (as have most HK rifles, actually)
NEHackettstown 21 Posted June 14, 2018 Palmetto State PSA5 is due to come out at the end of this year, beginning of next. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/01/23/shot-2018-palmetto-state-armory-9mm-ak-47-mp5-news/
vjf915 456 Posted June 16, 2018 From HK too: https://hk-usa.com/hk-models/sp5k-2/ Now, being legal in NJ is a different story.
carl_g 568 Posted June 16, 2018 The pistols are the way to go. IMO the MP5 as a rifle looks strange unless it’s a sbr with a can on it. (What the GSG is trying to mimic)
BlueLineFish 615 Posted June 16, 2018 Too bad the pistols are no go here. I have to wait to move out of state

(What the GSG is trying to mimic) Exactly. If I were to get a rifle version, it would have to be an MP5SD_ variant so it can at least look fairly cool...until I move somewhere where I could have a 2 stamp gun. I don't like the look of the thinner fake cans on the MP5 non-SD guns. Same would go for a PS90 if I were to ever buy one - it would have to have a fake can to cover that ridiculous barrel sticking out what looks like yards in front of the gun.... That said, the SP5K pistols without the front MP5K handgrip just don't do it for me visually - I fell in love with the MP5K exactly as an MP5K is. What is needed to legally get the front MP5K style handgrip? SBR stamp? Or is that a firearm or nothing special in a free state? Some of the other pistols (like the palmetto one above) I'd think I'd almost rather have the option of a standard MP5A4-length front end with a brace at the back... Doesn't matter to me now, can't have (or afford) any of the really fun ones while I live here anyway...so GSG it is!
shooter28 153 Posted December 14, 2018 Bump Ive had a MP5 itch lately. The rifle versions of the MP5 made by Zenith and Omega seem never to be in stock. Would it be possible to recreate it with a pistol gun and have it registered as a rifle? For example, buy this pistol: https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/products/omega-9mm-full-size-pistol-atlantic-exclusive Then add this barrel extension: https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/MP5-Fake-Suppressor-Barrel-Extension-82p18000.htm And this stock: https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/HK-MP5-A2-Fixed-Stock-POF-83p18259.htm Assuming you had it sent to a gunsmith or FFL for assembly prior to taking possession, you’ve fulfilled everything to make it pass the AWB in terms of features. Would a FFL then be able to register it as a rifle as I take possession?
carl_g 568 Posted December 14, 2018 Yes you can do this with the caveat that it can never be turned back into a pistol again. That barrel extension would have to be pinned and welded to the barrel and the length would have to be at least 16 inches. One of the members here did this with a AK pistol turning it into a Krink clone.
shooter28 153 Posted December 14, 2018 That’s fine with. I just move to a free state, submit a form 1 and remove the extension. My wallet isn’t gonna be happy with me now
Krdshrk 3,871 Posted December 14, 2018 I saw a couple of local shops have the Omega in stock. One's a forum vendor here too (JT)

I bought one of these when first released a couple years ago and it is really worth it. Now I have to dump 400 bucks for the suppressor barrel for it as I’m shooting my Sig MPX all the time for the can. On a side note the Sig MPX-P is nuts accurate. chris327 30 Posted April 21, 2019 Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone gotten a ptr mp5 rifle by now? It's the ptr 608 model and is nj legal out of the box.

The NJ Legal model is actually the PTR 308 9R - https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/products/ptr-9r-ptr-308-new-jersey-legal
chris327 30 Posted April 21, 2019 It's the same gun as the 608 but comes with ets 10 rd plastic mags. The 608 is legal just has 30 rd mags that would need to be pinned and is in stock when the nj model is not in stock anywhere.

I’m probably leaving NJ in he next 2 years so I would like a version that I can easily convert to an SBR in the future without having to cut or replace the barrel. Rob0115 1,105 Posted May 1, 2019 The NJ compliant PTR looks awful. I’d get a good AR 9mm like the Wilson combat for similar money.

chris327 30 Posted May 1, 2019 The long barrel doesnt look the best sure. But for mp5 variants in nj theres minimal choices. I think I'm going to get one just for a range fun gun.
Krdshrk 3,871 Posted May 1, 2019 I think it looks better than the Zenith Z-5 vs the PTR-9R PTR308 NJ legal A lot cheaper too. Yeah the foregrip isn't the same as the original HK style... but it has the integral rail. Navy style grip instead of the older SEF style. Omega OM9-R A2 has the fake "suppressor" look around the barrel and the HK style handguard and navy pistol grip. Both the Zenith and Omega are over $2k, while the PTR-9R is $1600'ish. If I had the money.... I'd probably go with the PTR
shooter28 153 Posted May 1, 2019 Another option would be to get the PTR pistol and buy this barrel extension (fake suppressor) and pin and weld it. Throw on a stock and register it as a rifle and you would be good to go. Looks like the Omega but still in the $1700 range https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/MP5-Fake-Suppressor-Barrel-Extension-82p18000.htm https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/HK-MP5-A2-Fixed-Stock-POF-83p18259.htm If you dont like the foregrip, the traditional MP5 one should be compatible as well
