Reloaderz NJ finally making progress

Recommended Posts

After over a year since planning approval, Reloaderz NJ's range in Wayne seems to be on its way.  It is located at the old Fuddrucker's site on Rt. 23 South.  Construction has been slow but a new sign promising "coming soon" has been erected.   Their website had little information but they are accepting emails for notifications when they are open for business.

I live very close but I'm worried they will be as expensive as GFH in Woodland Park.  Here's hoping...

I love ranges...but now there are TOO many around here.

Next thing you know, there could be competition, and god forbid - competitive pricing, and I WANT TO PAY HIGH PRICES, DAMMIT!  And I want to wait for open ports too, while I'm at it...

I've heard about this location for a while, glad it sounds like they are making a bit of progress with it.  Hopefully it does well, and offers better service than the Fudds that it is replacing...

More ranges is a positive thing as competitors in the area would want to strive for your business. Competition will benefit the consumer only, whether it's pricing, how nice the facility is, or services they offer where other ranges don't. If a range fails to meet customer expectations I'm sure they will cease doing business in the future.

I almost prefer shooting in the cold or rain at cherry ridge. At least the place is barren then.

I agree. Even with Gold membership you have to plan your schedule around their peak times and avoid the weekends there. GFH expansion should hopefully relieve some of these issues once completed.

Looking at the TTC and GFH range rates and memberships, I would be surprised if Reloaderz didn't follow the same pricing model for indoor ranges.  Expect to pay a substantial hourly rate even if you buy a membership package.

Agreed.  I believe if you are hoping it's going to be inexpensive, you're dreaming.

As a gold member of GFH,  I pay 10.00 an hour,  free guest passes,  free gift passes,  special members only day at the trap range for free all you can shoot and eat,  free unlimited gun rentals,  discounted ammo pricing, 20.00 transfer fee and much more.  I dont know if it could get any better but I hear it IS going to get better!  Also,  you dont have to deal with asshole employees as all these guys are the best.

Moved out of Jersey several months ago for Florida. This is my experience with the local range costs.
Non member. $15 a port $7.50 for an add on. Ammo no reloads, pricing is standard prices, not range prices. So the last 9's I used were on sale for $12 a box and 38's were 15, I'd guess much cheaper then GFH member discount.
Only had to wait once so I went shopping nearby and then came back. Don't try that in Jersey.
There are also regular specials like ladies shoot free on Mondays, 4 through closing, 2 for Tuesday's, $1.50 rentals Weds.
I've seen transfers for $25, including NCIC check. For purchaces, one place I've gone to was NCIC included with purchase, the other was $5.

As for shooting reloads, the county sheriff's open their outdoor range to the public 2x a month at no cost.

So there is a world of difference once you leave NJ.

And the freedom of not having to go to/from range only. And even without a CCW you can have your handgun in the car as long as it is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use. This includes the glove box and center console. This makes transporting so much easier.

I cant wait for the expansion to be finished.  There will be special stuff for members only I do hear..steel shooting gallery type stuff...:D

I was among the first members at GFH and this was discussed then.  A lot of things were.  No biggie to me as I've moved my shooting outdoors, so this isn't a knock.  Some stuff is difficult to pull off.  Nothing more.

Going by old weblinks for Fuddruckers, the address is listed as 1813 RT. 23 South in Wayne. It looks to be right across from Khol's on the other side of the highway.

Wife & I drove by it on Saturday.  Used to eat here when it was Fuddrucker's.  Know the area somewhat.  NJ needs ranges.  Price point will be whatever the market will bear (and should be).  No one with millions to invest in a bidness goes into it half-assed.  Demographics & location play a YUGE part.  The "North Jersey Bidness Model" has already been invented, so I highly doubt major differences will come to light.  More KIDS & more WOMEN need to keep shooting in order for our culture to SURVIVE.  It is my sincere hope that this forum will treat every new range with the respect & admiration they deserve for just opening, instead of bitching about price :)

I don't mind GFH doing so because I realize that the bulk of their trade is on non shooters coming in to blast a few boxes of OO buck or 5.56 at whatever the price is. Seriously, the punters there don't seem to care when they come in and two guys rent two guns for an hour with six boxes of ammo between them and fork over over $200.

If I lived closer to RTSP, I might go for their membership, but the true deterrent there is that some of their RO's have serious attitude problems while GFH's are mostly very friendly (only had one negative interaction). Maybe it's the lack of plate carriers and the .45's with extended magazines clipped to the front of them in MOLLE holsters, which seems to make the RTSP thugs feel like they're occupying Fallujah and need to be ready to neutralize the civilians (all assumed to be possible threats) at the drop of a hat. Don't get me wrong, the RTSP management and owner are great, but some of their RO's are beyond help.

Anyway, I'll gladly try out another Northern Jersey range just to see what's what.

I think most of the places around here say "no reloads", but I've yet to have  anyone check.

Yes, when i go to a public range I put my reloads in previously used factory ammo boxes, but i've still never been questioned...

I agree, can't find any nearby indoor range that allows reloads. That's why I go to the sherrifs range 2x a month. Reloads are fine there.

One of the indoor ranges is steel targets, frangible ammo only. I'd reload that, but still no reloads allowed.

If it wasn't so costly I guess I could have a berm built and shoot on the property, it regularly sounds like a war zone in my area. I tried bouncing the idea off the wife but it didn't stick..

No reloads????? That's insane.

Pricing was just released - The monthly membership is great if you plan to shoot during the week (sheet indicates monthly fees include unlimited range time M-F). That said, of the 3 local ranges to me GFH, Longshots and now Reloaderz, the best bang for buck seems to be Longshots $449 annual membership. 1 hour weekly increments free, free weekend mornings between 8am-10am, 5 free guests and 1 free cleaning.

Becoming a member at Reloaderz in the lowest annual package you still have to pay on weekends, an no single free cleaning and guests cost $$$. So in my case where I shoot once a month I'm paying $315 to be a member (reduced initial fee) plus if I shoot once a month $15 x 12 = $180 for a total of $495. Shooting twice a month that jumps to $675.

For full disclosure I've been to both Longshots and GFH already. As someone who just needs a port and an hour, both fit the bill equally. Both have great staff, and 8am on a Sunday most shooters don't need any help anyway, but in general I go to GFH only because it's 4 miles closer to me. Now that i've seen Reloaderz pricing, the Longshots membership makes the most sense to me.

Savior Equipment American Classic Tactical Double Long Rifle. 36” Model. I bought this from Amazon along with the single rifle case to decide which I liked better. I don’t feel like going through the hassle of returning as it was bought through a third party seller so I figured I’d knock 43ish%  off the price ($70.36 incl tax) and pass it along to someone here that could use it. As new condition minus the tags. $40 cash and pick up in Freehold.

Although it's not a NJ establishment I believe West Side Rifle and Pistol Range is the last indoor gun range that exists in NYC of all places. I happen to know the guys and they are a great bunch of guys. I found out that they are also hurting like all other self owned businesses and someone mentioned they have a gofundme page currently. The fact that they are a 2A establishment and also the only one left in the NYC I figured i  can let our forum members know about their page. They did not come to me about this but if I can help out a business/friend and spread the word I will do so and for a good bunch of guys. I understand that for some of us it's hard to donate but if you can that would be great. If you can also spread the word and post on your social media sites that would be great. I would do so but I don't have any accounts on FB, IG or other sites. If you do donate drop them a message that it was you heard about them via NJGF!

Thank you and sorry for asking......

A fellow forum was asking about a display case for his wife’s pistol I believe. So I decided after seeing some display cases for insane prices, to make my own out of more or less cheap prices.
This one will be for my Nighthawk Custom Falcon 1911.
I started out with a humidor I had when I was on a cigar kick with the club.
Humidors make perfect cases for your gun.
Why? Its designed to keep moisture in so your cigars don’t dry out. Ones that are well made have a nice tight seal.
‘But John, we don’t want to keep moisture in. It will hurt the gun’. Correctomundo! But using it to keep moisture out works too! If you are not a cigar smoker, a humidor keeps the cigars from drying out by putting a moisture pad inside. We simply won’t be using the moisture pad nor the cheapo humidity gauge they usually give you.
So lets start. One used but still in great shape humidor with glass lid. If you don’t have one, you can pick up something decent for about $50. I added a lik leather NH tag to use to open lid. They are air tight and easier to open with something to grab.

If you use a humidor, they sometimes come with a lil shelf and divider. Toss them.
Next, we added a little antique bronze clasp. 5 for $12 on Amazon. They come with tiny wood screws. You’ll need a jeweler type phillips head and a small awl to start a hole. Do not screw in without a starter hole. Also a mini pad lock with skeleton key.

Next, you’ll want something to lay in there like velvet. I chose purple velvet. Rather than buy it by the yard, I actually got 2 - 14”x14” pillow shams with zippers on Amazon for about $11...
This is a lot cheaper than buying it by the yard plus you don’t gave to sew anything. Just stuff it and zip it.

You will need something to stuff it. That is your choice. I already had a bag of poly fill from another project. You can even rio open al old pillow and use the guts.

Next is rechargeable Silica packs. I got a 25 count bag cheap also on Amazon. I chose to line the bottom of the case and also throw some inside the sham.

Once you beat it and adjust it to get in the right position, you can see how the gun sits and adjust as needed.
Next is optional and not cheap. I picked up 2 - Sensor Push bluetooth temp/humidity sensors for $50 each. One for the box and one for my safe. After calibrating them and pairing them to my phone, I inserted one into the display case.

You don’t have to do this but I’m a bit of a tech nerd so.... [emoji6]
You can also use a cheap digital one too.
This one transmits data and stores 20 points which you can set alarms in the app if moisture increases. Kind of more important in my safe but....[emoji16]
Here is a sample of the data. I just put them in so it will take time to level off.

That’s pretty much it. Outside of the sensors, its cheap, easy and looks great. You can fo crazy with it or go simple.
