Was the gun in Long Beach legal?

I’ve been trying to find out if the gun used in the Long  beach , CA shooting was a legally owned gun or not. It’s funny how that is rarely mentioned in the news.

it's been seeming to me that they make a point of telling the world that a gun was legally acquired when it was....which would lead me to believe that if it's not mentioned, then it wasn't.
