The NRA is in trouble $$$

Recommended Posts

The NRA is not going broke any time soon.

The NRA filed a lawsuit against the state of NY and Cuomo because they are preventing them from conducting lawful business in the state.

Cuomo pressured insurance and financial institutions to stop doing business with the NRA.  This means the NRA cannot contract insurance for Carry Guard, they cannot get insurance for media production, they can't even get a basic checking account to pay their employees.

Cuomo based his attack on the NRA mainly on carry guard, a product that helps with legal fees for defendants in self defense cases.  Cuomo argues that it's illegal to insure people in criminal defense cases.  Which tells you, anyone who uses a firearm for self defense in NY is a criminal in Cuomo's opinion.

This will keep going up the judicial ladder until NY's laws are struck down by a higher court.  The actions of Cuomo and his minions are purely to drain money from the NRA as fast as they can, and to make doing business in NY as difficult as possible.

Quote

Filed on May 11, 2018, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, the lawsuit  claims that Cuomo, Vullo, and DFS engaged in a “campaign of selective prosecution, backroom exhortations, and public threats” designed to coerce banks and insurance companies to withhold services from the NRA.  The NRA argues that such tactics vastly overstep DFS’s regulatory mandate, and seek to suppress the speech of Second Amendment supporters and retaliate against the NRA and others for their political advocacy. The lawsuit seeks millions of dollars in damages to redress harms inflicted by the DFS campaign.

Misleading topic is misleading.

Don't blame the OP.  The leftist MSM is promoting the story pretty much the same as the thread title, and they are doing it to make the NRA look weak and vulnerable.  The OP has presented the story the same as it's been presented by members in the other gun forums.

The bottom line though,  Cuomo and his minions are an existential threat to the NRA operating in NY.  The cost to defend against this liberal agenda amounts to a small fortune.  If Cuomo is not put in check, the NRA will cease to exist in NY.

btw, this should come as no surprise.  This anti-NRA campaign is being funded by Bloomberg.

Actually, New York's insurance laws are some of the strongest in the country; and very pro-consumer...this one's going to get interesting.

They may very well be but a small FFL American Trading Lodge in Broadalbin NY who ran his business out of his garage behind his home was recently forced to close up shop because his insurance company refused to renew his homeowners policy because he was in the firearms business.

He was unable to find any insurer in NY who would write a policy for his home because of his business on the same property. This is ostensibly due to NY State insurance regulators giving a hard time to insurance companies that underwrite firearms related businesses.

He ran a good shop with great prices and customer service. t's a shame he was forced out of business by the governors brown shirts.

I will miss him as I made several purchases from him.

Didn't Trump say something about deregulating, or changing the regulations in the insurance industry where people could buy health insurance out of state.  As it is now, insurance companies have the states locked up tight, not exactly a monopoly but a protected market.

If shops like your backyard FFL could get insurance from a 2A friendly insurer out of state, they'd still be i business.  So, this is a stark example of how blue states use the insurance industry to exercise political control.

I'd be very leery of this... because if NY is doing it, Murphy is sure to follow. And even if it gets tossed eventually, strong arm tactics like this could be used to hurt an awful lot of small FFLs in the short-term. These people really play dirty!

There aren't many companies that insure FFLs - this isn't a recent development and is for wholly political reasons. Selling insurance to FFLs should be a good money maker for insurance companies since if an FFL follows the laws when they sell a firearm they are protected from lawsuits by federal law. These are protections that don't exist in most other industries and were put in place when Bush Jr was president because Bloomberg and clan were trying to bankrupt dealers and manufacturers by suing them over use of firearms by criminals.
