GRIZ 3,365 Posted August 19, 2018 I usually avoid answering the question "how many guns do you have". I usually answer with "a few". If that raises questions I tell them "I also have over 100 cameras".

Seriously though, I think the more that the anti-gun crowd tries to "demonize" law-abiding gun owners, the more imperative it is that our community pushes back - one person at a time - to show how normal and non-threatening it really is. A law abiding person who owns a gun is no more fearsome or dangerous than a law-abiding person who owns a set a kitchen knives... owns a pressure cooker and some fireworks... owns a baseball bat... or owns a motor vehicle. If you don't have murderous intent, NONE of these things pose a danger to anyone. We can't push that message hard enough IMO. ^^^Excellent post Peel! The easiest way to "push-back" is to wear "gun apparel" in public. And then do KIND STUFF & BE SEEN DOING IT! I try to do it every day. Helping a senior with groceries, letting someone cut in front of you at the checkout if they're only buying a gallon of milk, gifting a double amputee Vet a diet snapple as he waits in 90* heat for the senior/disabled bus to get to Walmart's bus stop. All of those things are so EASY to do! I think it took me a whole week to do all of them? All while wearing shirts with "COALITION OF NEW JERSEY FIREARM OWNERS" printed on them! Trouble is some folks here are so new that they've been POISONED by the candy-assers & nay-sayers that think gun ownership should be kept a deep, dark, SECRET! We sometimes are our own worst enemy! Be an AMBASSADOR TO THE SHOOTING SPORTS by wearing "GUN APPAREL" & start conversations. FWIW several women have come up to me wanting to know where to shoot & get training as I'm grocery shopping in Shop Rite! The more I wear "gun shirts", the more I get approached for info. People, especially women, often say their dads taught them to shoot long ago & they've raised their kids & want to take-up the sport again. Or a young mom wants to protect her family against a home invasion! These "hidden gems" are out there like gold in a slough, they just need a sifter to find them. If yer reading this YOU'RE THE SIFTER!

Well, we definitely are a minority in this area. But, I personally don't mind being called a "mutant"... it's a lot better than being called a "sheep"... It's NEVER been a goal of mine to be part of the herd. Mutants . or Group of uncool or different people. 1 hour ago, Mrs. Peel said: 1 hour ago, Mrs. Peel said: A law abiding person who owns a gun is no more fearsome or dangerous than a law-abiding person who owns a set a kitchen knives... I've used that multiple times when someone pointed out how dangerous guns were, did you know how many people have "assault knife blocks" sitting on their kitchen counters? 1 hour ago, Mrs. Peel said: We can't push that message hard enough IMO. Downtownv 1,764 Posted August 20, 2018 9 hours ago, Regular Guy said: Wow, a single AR constitutes an arsenal? Tell him you want to shoot in competitive matches at a local range. I'd tell him about 3-gun, high power rifle and service rifle matches. A lot of ranges are affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) which was established by the Federal Government in 1903. High power and service rifle matches follow their structure and require a high power rifle or service rifle to compete. Most people don't realize the government established the CMP and that shooting is a sport that encompasses more activities than hunting with just just 3 rounds of ammo in your shotgun. Uh oh.... I'm in trouble.
father-of-three 235 Posted August 20, 2018 Arsenal is a tricky word in that New Jersey residents now need three times as many magazines to keep up with the round count of a free arsenal.
gleninjersey 2,134 Posted August 20, 2018 I remind people that an "arsenal" is a place where weapons are stored. Technically you can own a small pistol safe, not own a pistol and still own an 'arsenal". I would then jokingly tell him to hand over in mancard and that you'll return it after he joins you for a range day. If he doesn't laugh and say, "Yeah, that would be awesome!" then don't go out of your way to hang out with him in the future.
TokenEntry 293 Posted August 20, 2018 @JMich3 Does your friend own any firearms or he just come along as a shooting buddy to the range with you? I would think most gun owners that shoot often have seen all kinds of firearms. An AR being a fairly common rifle at the range should be nothing as breath taking as a FN SCAR.
