Did the ban on private sales go into effect? What's the protocol now? What are gun shops charging? Does buyer or seller pay or is the fee split?

Recommended Posts

So I think that it has been established anyone that wants to not pay transfers and own machine guns legally and cheap get a FFL01 and SOT. Then they can do FTF transfers for the rest for only the cost of the NICS.

If you have the appropriate FFL, and build or mod FA weapons, I'd guess you need to put at least 10K rounds down range before you can make the claim your gear can hold up to 10K rounds.  I mean, if you are writing up some marketing material, you have to be able to walk the walk before you put it in print.

Blow me.

Yikes

Staying with the topic of this thread, a thought crossed my mind. An 18 year old can no longer acquire a receiver or pistol grip firearm F2F in NJ as they did legally prior to the law. The dealer can not run a NICS check on them. Oops.

18yoa Johnny could buy a Tac-14 from 35yoa Jimmy. He can't acquire one now because an FFL can't run NICS for "other" on an 18yoa person.

You might be the first person to actually think of that.

He wasn't.  I stumbled upon that tidbit when examining the 4473 "Pot issue".  Just another example of how the old COE's are worth their weight in GOLD :)

What if 19 & 20 year olds already bought an "Other", like prior to the new law package OR when they resided in another state?  Johnny wants to take his into the woods to blow shit up :)

It can be done. Many towns still allow home based FFL. I know Manalapan does since the code official is a Home Based FFL01.

FFL01 with SOT doesn't need judge. Collector does. Any collector that can afford multiple transferable MG will get approval, and probably has CCW.

Already tried that, about 6 years ago. Manalapan will not allow a storefront business on residential property. Doesn't matter if your an ffl or a florist, if you have customer traffic, even without signage, it's not allowed in Manalapan.

If that has changed recently, I would love to know so I can apply for an ffl01.

And “cottage industries”. And even those are limited to employee numbers due to parking. A small stock trader or online companies for instance but no retail traffic. Zoning laws are tough to fight. Battling them could easily break the bank.

I agree. I have building in Jamesburg I just built another room for storage. I can simply turn it into store.

That’s what Paul from NJ Arms did...

Did DNA testing, and had a room for guns in the same suite. Started moving from one to the other, and a few years before he passed... he closed the DNA stuff and focused on guns.

So I can close the plumbing and play with guns all day? I'm in.

Or both... the guy that owns the company that we lease our copiers from also runs a porn website.

Paul’s DNA focus was paternity testing. Would joke that depending on the results, he would raise/lower the price to buy a gun.

Exactly, but everyone is so concerned about complying. I was simply stating that a FFL that offers free services for transfer for FTF between NJ residents would see an increase in overall business because so many in NJ will comply.

If I buy From Bob’s gun shop I can expect a transfer fee. If I buy from Bob in Pa I can expect a transfer fee. But if I buy From @BobA I shouldn’t expect a transfer fee? Doesn’t make sense. No one is happy about it. Focus your energy on calling your legislators... there is no longer a justification for FPID and P2P since face 2 face has theoretically been eliminated.

Jeebus you guys are blaming and attacking everyone. Who’s next? The crossing guards?

The only problem is that they will say face to face is not eliminated. Private sales between family members, and two active LEO’s is still OK. If they banned all face to face entirely then there might be a chance of of the FPID and P2P going away. But we still have to try and call our legislators. Stupid laws and most people here are just biding their time.

Let them say it,.. and ask them how it prevents crime. And quote the new Murphy NJSP crime gun data.

Why would you have a NICS check on an Antique Longgun? Why would you transfer an Antique Longgun through a dealer?

Because the new law specifically states that all firearm transfers must be done by an FFL and the FFL must do a NICS check. Since NJ considers them all "firearms" they would also be covered by this requirement.

But NJ does not consider a Longgun made before 1898 for which commercial ammo is not available a firearm. It is an Antique Firearm and is exempt. That exemption is still there in the new law.

I do not think this is the case. I did not see any wording that addressed this specifically. Previously an air gun sent to a dealer required paperword , COE Or P2P but no Nics check.

That being said one can interpret all to mean "All" or "ALL" LOL.  Since it was not addressed directly from what i can tell in the new laws i will revert to our original practice until otherwise advised by the NJSP.

My Opinion... Nics is the federal background check system and only items considered firearms federally are nics checked.
