Moose11872 13 Posted October 22, 2018 I have my NJ FID and want to buy a pistol from a friend in PA. Other then the purchase permit and consent to background check do I need to do anything else other then the both of us going to my FFL and doing the transfer? Thanks in advance for any info/advice. Screwball 483 Posted October 22, 2018 Consent to mental health and the application is for the actual pistol permit. You need that before I’d worry about the purchase. Saying that to not waste your or your friend’s time.A handgun must go through a FFL in NJ. That FFL will handle the actual transfer/NICS. Your friend can either mail it (UPS or FedEx), have a local FFL send it (cheaper, since they can send USPS), or take it to the FFL. If he ships direct, tell him to make a copy of his driver’s license, and include so your FFL can record it in their book.
