Leaving NJ

Recommended Posts

We have lots of discussions here about heading to NC, AZ ,FL etc.
Well if the Demo Dude becomes Gov. of FL you better look out.
His top priority = AWB and more. May have to remove FL from the list.

These idiot liberals think banning and making stricter gun control is going to help. There will be a lot more crime if they do. They always forget that criminals don’t get guns the legal way.

As a former NJ'ian and current Floridian, I don't believe that's what they're thinking.  They know that these increased laws won't stop the criminals. What they *will* stop are the law abiding citizens from defending their liberties.... thus allowing those "idiot liberal politicians" the power to keep control over the citizenry.  That's what they want/need.   Again, don't think Sandy Hook, or Las Vegas, or Parkland HS, etc.   Think "Ruby Ridge..."   think the "Bundy Ranch...."

We law abiding pro 2A FL citizens are all extremely concerned about the Gov. election as well. We have to get every last GOP and independent vote out there to get Ron DeSantis elected,  Early voting has started here, and the GOP voters seem to be turning out.  I wish the MSM wouldn't report that. I want all in our community to think "the sky is falling" up until the last hour of election day to turn out as much of the vote as we can muster... our lives and liberties depend on it!

*My* logical approach?..... I'd agree.  Their's?    Yes, they have one, but nothing you or I would ever consider valid or sound. It goes something like, "Whatever fits our agenda is true....  everything else is false/wrong/racist, etc., etc,"

Anyway...

The topic of this thread sums up my one biggest concern about the leading 2A organizations... and I mean this as constructive criticism: they have done a LOUSY job of winning the hearts and minds of people in liberal bastions. They don't really try. And THAT, I'm convinced, is a terrible mistake in the long run.

Because residents of liberal/progressive states who are raised (brainwashed?) to believe, for example, that criminals should be released without bail, but legal gun owners pose a great threat to society (the exact opposite of what crime statistics show) eventually move to other neighboring states after they ruin the states that they're in and take their ideology with them. We see it in the migration of New Jerseyans and New Yorkers to PA, the Carolinas and Florida. And this article shows that Californians are moving in droves to places like Idaho.

https://www.businessinsider.com/californians-priced-out-move-to-idaho-2018-10

I mean, Idaho! (Wasn't that touted by preppers as part of the "American Redoubt" - a safe haven for conservative/libertarian thinkers?) Well, guess what? It's being flooded by Californians who left their high-tax state - and now they'll want their dog parks and other silly amenities that jack up taxes... and they'll be supporting all the same anti-2A, pro-illegal immigration, soft on crime, anti-cop B.S. that has all turned California into the batshit-crazy place it is now. They can't seem to grasp that they only re-create the very things they escaped from.

The NRA should be running a whole different type of advertising campaign - almost like an ongoing political/educational campaign - short spots on primetime TV that drive viewers back to their website and social media sites. I'm a lifetime member and have given extra small amounts on occasion, but I would kick in regularly if I thought they were on the right damn public relations track. They should be putting 90 percent of their attention on the 10 percent most progressive places in the nation. Radiate the tumor, not the surrounding flesh... or the cancer spreads.

First I don’t drink and second I have no problems to run from. So with that I want to retire in a state with a nicer climate and less violence. My problem is where I will be taking my pension and enjoying the weather, my pool and some golf.

We are losing because we have given up on the children.....  we do not learn...we fight based in election cycle timelines...not generational timelines.

We have no 5 ten 20 50 year plan....  our business model sucks.

There is no 2a mindset in NJ because we didnt ingrain it 20 to 30 years ago.....  the battles we are fighting now and losing were lost then.

Too many people are naive and think moving to a "free state" will solve all the problems we have in NJ. It will most likely be a better life in multiple categories but to think anti-gunners are not expanding their movements in these states is crazy. Tennessee, Vermont, Maine, even Texas...no state is safe from them. Especially PA. Most think they'll just move across the river but PA is moving towards more gun control laws.

Too many liberals moving from liberal states because they see the problems and they bring policies with them and then wonder why the new state is a craphole.

I expect to see a BIG exodus from this craphole state when people go to do their taxes in April. When they see they no longer get the big deduction for state income tax and high property tax, but get limited to a max of 10K, they will be PISSED!!! The new tax bill is going to screw over many Liberals, big time.

Hell, there are many areas of the state where just property taxes are over 10K a year.

Of course, they will blame Trump for signing the bill and not the fuckheads in Trenton for pushing the taxes as high as they are.

Once the upper income people figure the above out, all the ones paying the bills in the state will be leaving, then the real fun will start!

Mrs Peel, you are usually pretty good with your insight, analysis and ideas but the NRA dedicating a large part of their resources to the most liberal areaa makes little sense.  If you are adverising a product or service you dont target the audience least interested in purchasing or using your product.

I do agree that they could use a softer touch at times and highlight the benefits or statistics of being a gun owner instead of "THEY ARE COMING FOR YOUR GUNS!!" all the time.  Maybe try to win over some fence sitters or spend some time educating the sheeple.  But dedicating a large chunk of resources to the people last likely to listen or purchase what you are selling isn't going to work.

To help combat the spread of liberalism you need to look at the source.

The indoctrine centers for youth known as public schools need to be cleaned up.  While Dem controlled teachers unions control everything you'll be hard pressed to change anything.

Young voters are increasingly seeing socialism as a good idea.  Why do you think that is?

My parents pay about $13k, and they don't exactly live on an overly special piece of land. County to county (even town to town) differences are drastic.

It's as if some people who are pissed about missing out on the deduct don't seem to care why they're getting that deduct in the first place - an asinine property tax rate. Do you think people would rather pay huge property taxes and get a big deduct, or just pay a lot less in property tax? I know my answer...

Nope, I'm right... you're wrong! (LOL). Though in your 2nd paragraph, I think you're kind of agreeing with me. Let me add a few points of clarification:

1) We tend to forget about NJ's unaffiliated voters, but there are many, many people who are not "political hounds" and thus are likely still not "locked into" a particular party line or ideology. NJ has many such voters:

https://ivn.us/2013/06/18/independents-exceed-party-registration-in-5-states/

(Article is dated 2013, but I've seen more recent stats that were similar).

2) Studies of American voters at-large show that an awful lot of people who DON'T own a gun are actually not at all close-minded about gun ownership. "Three-in-ten American adults say they currently own a gun, and another 11% say they don’t personally own a gun but live with someone who does. Among those who don’t currently own a gun, about half say they could see themselves owning one in the future." http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2017/06/22/the-demographics-of-gun-ownership/psdt_2017-06-22-guns-01-11/

What does that all mean? That means that, yes, EVEN in states like NJ, there are people that can be swayed with facts about gun ownership. One of my dearest friends is a Bernie-lovin' progressive - but in the middle of her divorce, while moving out into her own place - she suddenly has expressed an interested in shooting with me. Why? Because she's a single woman living alone and she realizes that should would be physically outmatched by an intruder. She's liberal, but she's not stupid! Hell, even the most diehard Progressives like safety and security. It's a basic human desire.

We (the NRA, other 2A groups, the 2A community at-large) are making a strategic error when we let that clown, Gov Murphy, for instance, link that recent Trenton fair shooting to "gun violence". That shooter was an ex-con, a gangbanger, who NEVER should have been out on parole. That shooting, first and foremost, was about our broken criminal justice system. We should be pushing back on that manipulative messaging HARD. The overwhelming percentage of gun crimes are committed by ex-felons, half while they're still on parole. People need to be "taught" that through an education campaign. There are hearts and minds to be won, even in NJ - most of ALL in NJ.

We should also be pushing back hard on his nonsensical "gun trace" stats too. What do they really show? I sat down one day, spent 20 min looking up city populations and crunched the numbers. The troubled cities in this state, with Democratic-controlled majorities, and soft-on-crime approaches (Newark, Paterson, Irvington, Camden and a few others) make up about 8 percent of the state's population, but are generating nearly 50% of those gun traces, and just OVER 50% of the actual gun crime. He's using those statistics to show that "gun violence" is an "epidemic" all over this state... but that is PATENTLY UNTRUE. There is an epidemic of violence (of all types) in some hardcore neighborhoods in tough cities. But, if all those people politically "on the fence" only hear that one unchallenged argument, what are they going to believe? The NRA needs to be doing broad-based advertising - short, snappy and to the point - that shows exactly where crime is happening, why it's happening, and who's committing it. The fact that we've allowed the anti-gun movement in states like ours to smear legal, law-abiding gun owners and the organizations that represent us as "monsters" with "blood on our hands" - and that we haven't hit back hard with a more compelling argument - is a strategic error of epic proportions.

It all boils-down to the same 200 people in NJ carrying all of the water for everyone else.

Imagine the education campaign 2A groups could employ if it were mandatory to be a member of "XYZ" group in order to earn the right to post here!  Read all ya want for FREE, but if ya want to SAY something, well, then it's put-up or shut-up time.  Is that reality?  Hell NO!  That's why my back hurts...too much water.  NJ has a million gun owners.  If they each paid a dollar, we'd have a MILLION DOLLAR War Chest to fund a PR campaign the likes of which no one has ever seen before!

The NRA has stepped-up seriously in NJ.  I have seen it first hand.  The war on guns is fought daily on many levels, some of which you'll never see or read about because they're behind the scenes OR launched on a social media platform some of you won't participate in.  Can they do more?  Sure they can.  And they will with greater resources as the base expands!

Every time I read a Forum Member say they quit the NRA, all I think of is:  "Well, here's another guy that just stepped on his own dick" & doesn't know why.  Every time I read that someone is moving exclaim, "so why should they bother helping NJ by joining or donating to a NJ 2nd Amendment group?" my blood boils as I'm more aware than most that the evil laws that get invented here don't stay here & if we had more people kick into our PR campaign & outreach we'd change more minds and make a real difference come voting time.  Something like 183 programs are sponsored in whole or part by the NRA.  We have full-time staff members here.  Anyone but me know their names?  If not but for a conflict in scheduling, your NRA-ILA Grass Roots representative would have attended the NJGF Shoot at RTSP on the 21st!  Yes, I tried to arrange it.

We need people to step-up & volunteer to help spread the word.  In person.  At newly built & well established ranges.  Anybody that thinks being a 2A Leader is about doing selfies, is out of touch.  It's being HERE with you folks, and there at a scout shooting function, and a hundred other places in-between.

Now we return you to your regular programming...

If Gillum gets elected (bigger IF than a lotta people think) and starts making gun control noises or EOs right away, there's lots more checks on executive power in FL. The legislature is highly unlikely to go Dem anytime soon, but you never know. Also remember that the AG and Ag&Consumer comm (CCW permits) are elected also.  And of course that far more power devolves to the county level than in NJ. A few Sheriffs are endorsing Gillum, but for the most part the rest are neutral that are not endorsing DeSantis.

What IS worrisome to me is the 13 or 14 dumbass ballot measures. This volume and the ability to put an AWB on a ballot question that will be worded and hyped completely opposite to what it really will do. In WA state a huge gun control ballot issue is up. The People That Hate You and Want You Dead are using this method to enact AWB and other disarmament initiatives by getting more illegal aliens in to vote they way they tell them to. This is whay I said way bac in the 2016 election run up, illegal Immigration isn't AN issue, it's THE issue. All those leeches coming up from the south in these caravans courtesy of Soros are intended to do just that.

I don't disagree with that, and I didn't mean to come off like a whiner. At the moment, I'm a lifetime member of NRA and an annual member of ANJRPC and CNJFO. I may vent on occasion, but I do very much believe that EVERY one who believes in 2A rights should belong to multiple 2A organizations (I mean, come'on, the dues are cheap) - and then try to donate additional dollars and/or hours on other occasions. Because your point is well-taken... if the coffers were bigger, we could do more.

And if there was ever an "all hands on deck" time for gun rights, this is it.

I agree ^^^^. I’m in the NRA, GOA, CNJFO & ANJRPC. For the last several months after my bills I look at what I have and have sent them 25.00 each. Not much but I want to know if I get jammed up there is someone I can call that has my back. Also as Trump stacks the courts we need to stack our decks too.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
