Leaving on a jet plane, don't know when....

Recommended Posts

Good to know about Allied, will keep that in mind. I can't imagine how emotional it must be leaving a home you've been in your whole life. I know it will be tough for me leaving mine having hand built my own home and blah blah...but hey, money talks lol.

A few folk here recommended them. Can’t recall who but thanks for the tip if you read this. Never even wasted shopping around. Especially when they told me the sometimes help the military ship weapons.....

when I left I had a lot of people tell me things like "oh if everyone leaves no one will be left to fight blah blah blah"... "what happens when there is nowhere left to run to.. " "PA will end up just like NJ"

I really like a LOT of the people on this site.. some really good people.. but your all nuts.. all of those statements are true.. but in a very honest way.. I can't worry about that.. because everything that has happened to me since I left has been a positive.. I pay a lot less.. I make more.. I get more for my money.. and guns..

staying living in a place that so opposes every way that I feel was completely impossible.. to be honest.. I left mostly over guns.. everything else was just a bonus.. I was SO tired of this gun being evil because it has a flash hider.. or this magazine being banned because it had one too many rounds.. its RIDICULOUS..

so yeah.. I "ran away" and I don't regret it for one second..

Yes - being NJ born & bred, I feel your pain...it does feel like you're being driven-out of your homeland.

We are still looking closely at NEPA - Northeast PA, aka the Poconos - and the more we look, the better we like it!

Thanks guys...... emoji16.png

Leaving early Friday for the hotel ~0400.... then chilling and enjoying some quiet time while waiting for the truck.

BTW, as mentioned early on in other threads, Allied Movers have been great so far and are firearms friendly...... emoji106.pngemoji2532.png

Might have been me. I started a thread about moving companys when I was looking for one. I went with allied but still moved all my guns myself.

Congratulations on your move. My wife and I were both born and raised in NJ and are so happy we left NJ. Sure sometimes we miss family, friends and good Italian food but living here in NH was definitely the best choice for me and my family. Now instead of a bunch of traffic with a bunch of angry people stuck in the "rat race". I get to see Mt.Washington every day on my way to work! Well when it isent covered by clouds anyway.

Here's a pic of the view from my daily commute.

I recently became a New Jermany Escapee, moving to Florida.  We are so happy we made the move.  We just got tired of all the political BS and crap being carried out by Trenton.  Were also tired of the taxes.  We initially rented a house (for four months) and just moved into our home last week.  While there are many parts of Florida that are cheaper than where we wanted to be, many costs are comparable or even higher than in NJ.  Our home is off a large lake in a gated community in Northern St Johns County which is the richest of the 67 counties with the best schools in Florida.  Our home is over 4,000 SqFt with 5 baths and a nice inground pool - so factor that in when you consider costs.  Our homeowners insurance is about double what it was in NJ, it is high in FL because of hurricane risk.  Our property taxes are about 45% of what they were in NJ, but when you factor in HOA and CDD fees they approach 60% of what they had been.  The zero income tax is very nice - make that extremely nice.  Food prices, especially fruits and veggies are much higher than NJ.  We went into shock when we first got here and found that things like peppers, tomatoes and other veggies were priced the same as NJ for the "each" versus the price per "pound" in NJ.  We kept going to stores and refused to make the purchases, and instead bought lots of wine which is cheaper :)

People can't drive here and car insurance is expensive as lots of fender benders.  It also drives me crazy that when people want to make left turns they don't pull into the middle of the intersection, rather they sit back at the stop line and when the light turns red rather than complete the turn they just sit there - arg!

People in this area are so nice we cannot believe it.  When we are out walking the dogs every person that drives by waves, some even stop to say hello.  Our neighbors are amazing.  The day after we moved in one came up to my wife and said he saw we had two sedans and if we need to pick up any big stuff feel free to come take his big SUV.  Another told me he had a 12' step ladder I could use if I ever needed it to change light bulbs.  Turns out I already took him up on that as we have over 40 recessed light fixtures many 14' high and I changed out all the old incandescent bulb with new sealed LED trims.

Guns, well almost everyone has one, or many many more.  The guy across the street has over 100, and we live in a very upscale area - no rednecks.  Just about everyone has one in the car, and while carry permits are almost automatic you actually do not need one to have a loaded gun in the glove box as long as it is in a holster or case.  If you have a permit you can have it just sitting on your lap as you drive.  Have to admit strange going to USPSA matches where people shoot 9mm PCC with mags that hold 59 rounds.

NEVER EVER EVER would I live in the Socialist People's Republic of New Jermany again.

Congrats on the home!  Also moved to Florida, but I have a different cost experience as I am in a more Florida native county, the beaches are free and about 10 minutes away, drive right on. My property taxes dropped $11,000 per year, both were 2400sqft, but I now have my own pool and spa. Insurance costs home/auto are the same, it’s a new home built to tough standards. Food, clothing, shopping is the same, except the people are waaayyy nicer.  Going to the range is still weird, I just toss everything on the car seat.  Only regret is I should have left sooner.

Basically the same deal here in SC.  The real America is amazing.  I was born and raised in NJ and never thought I would leave.  Should have left a long time ago.

Yes rural PA is a different planet. Our 2nd home is further west by 81 in the Blue Mountains, and out there four out of five people I meet own firearms. The people we bought the house from left a Trump 2016 sign in the basement. Need I say more?

The day we both got our resident PA LTCFs and bought firearms in PA, both with NJ DLs, was the day we crossed our personal Rubicon.

Safe driving.  As you make your way to free America this morning I'm doing the daily bus ride in to NYC.  :(

Yes, moving away from NJ has to do with A LOT more than just firearms.  And it does suck we feel like we are being pushed out.  Like you I agree that NJ really is a beautiful place and could be a wonderful place to live.  Unfortunately taxes and politicians are destroying it for.the average (read most) people.

Your new home looks very nice.  Enjoy the new location and this new aspect of your life..  Have fun exploring.  Shock the natives with stories of our gun laws, oppressive taxes and corrupt politicians.  And remember, pork roll is just a few mouse clicks away.  Delivered to your door.  I've used them for gifts to my parents.  Enjoy the freedom.

PS - You should twerk you original post and send it in to every NJ newspaper, 101.5 and Governor Murphy, Sweeney and any other relevant politician you can think of.  Let the politicians know that many are voting with their feet and that It's not just lip device.

If every person who fled NJ wrote a 'resignation letter" to them maybe they'll start thinking about what they are doing? Probably not, but at least it would feel good.  I've got at least another decade to work on mine.  Family has me anchored here for now.

Again, congrats.  Enjoy this new chapter.  It sounds like you worked hard for it.

Looks like You only did this so you wouldn’t have rake leaves anymore.

Won't be plowing that big driveway too often, either.

Funny you say that.  As my wife and I looked at over 80 houses every once in a while we would joke to each other saying, "That driveway is gonna be a bitch in the snow and ice" :)

I honestly think they don't care and in fact are happy to see us go.  More blue and less red for them.

Lol. We passed on one house with a great 180 degree view of the presidential mountian range because the driveway was so steep the owners have to park at the bottom and ride a snowmobile to and from the house in the winter.

My driveway now is pretty short, completely flat and I have a 3 stage 42" snowblower attachment for my ride on mower. I'm not worried.

Yeah, but that's only an issue 8 months out of the year...

You're right, they DON'T care.  Someone bought your house or moved into your old apartment.  Taxes will be paid regardless.  NJ IMO is in for a world of hurt financially, but the politicians are about the most protected class during a recession.  Taxes don't stop. The only thing these politicians care about is your vote.  Until NJ starts voting new pols into office nothing will change, and I believe that will need to come from the Dem suburbs.  When those suburbs start voting their own interests - likely related to school funding changes - then maybe NJ will change.  That, or bankruptcy.

I was sad to leave - maybe disappointed is a better word for it.  Do the politicians miss me?  Hardly.  I wasn't any use to them except when I filed my income tax return.

NJ is past the tipping point.  Too many entrenched special interest groups fighting over the same pot of money, and pols happy to keep refilling the pot because the special interest groups keep them in office.

Hell no. Sold my snowblower before I left!

I bartered away my snow blower as partial payment to the painters I used to spruce up the house before we sold it.  If I need a snow blower here in Florida then Climate Change might be real :)
