what would you choose: VZ24 vs mosin 91/30

Recommended Posts

Folks and@capt14k

What would you buy:

Czech VZ24 in good condition for 350

Or

Mosin 91/30 in excellent condition for 380

Both rifles are non matching.

For the record, it a first milsurp rifle for me.

My consideration is ammo availability, since I’m not reloading, and accuracy for 100 to 300 yards ( if I can put clamp on optics on it)

Can you make a recommendation?

I'm not a fan of mauser's in terms of milsurp but if you do decide to go the mosin route, you should definitely be able to find one well under $380 and also have matching numbers. Or spend around $400 and get a Finnish mosin like a reworked 91/30 or m91. Or spend $500-600 for a Finnish m39 or m27 and you'll get one of the most accurate milsurp guns in that -$600 range IMO.

Mosin is way over priced if it is a Russian. Finn Capture about right. Finn Tikka good price. Hungarian or Romanian it is a steal.

Vz24 has a ton of variables. Rampant Lion? Romanian? Crest no Crest? Chinese. German used. Beat up Brazilian insurgent model? More variables than the Mosin.

I would need more info, ideally pics to give the correct answer.

No pics but there is a lion stamped on the receiver.

Well now we are getting somewhere. Rampant Lion Czech. Most likely mismatched.

What about the Mosin barrel by the receiver what is on that.

Are there metal sling hangers on the Mosin. Any SA mark on the side of the barrel.

Mosin has round receiver, stamped with 1942 hammer and sickle. Matching bayonet and magazine.
VZ24 complely mismatched, bolt has the only matching numbers, no clear date, there is a 4 digit number followed by "P4" on the side of the receiver and "3(small lion) 38" marking

Vz24 is a no brainier and well worth the price. Bolt matching Czech Military issued.

I don’t think either of them is worth the price if they are not matching.

Have you seen complete mismatch Rampant Lions selling lately? They are going for $400. Cheapest I have seen were beat up and were still over $300. Bolt match $500-600. An all original Czech Matching Rampant Lion just sold for $2,500. German used original matching $1,600. Romanian and Chinese force matched are also getting $500-600.

Cool. If you said you passed I was going to ask where it was lol. They are very hard to find in original matching Condition with Rampant Lion Crest.
