Nope only extended mags.

Which I'm going to surmise (for a Glock 21) that are in excess of California's 10-round max, hence already illegal... wonder what spin the "fake news" is going to put on this one...

No - it didn't have its "30 magazine clip" and just couldn't quite reach that "500 rounds per second" rate of fire.

So we won't hear much...

Its being reported (even on CNN) that there were 6 off duty officers in the bar at the time of the shooting.    How was this shooter not lit up like a xmas tree after the first shot is beyond me.

Can off duty cops in CA carry when at a bar drinking?

Well probably anywhere carrying and actualy consuming alcohol is a no no .. maybe its ok in some places i dont know.  i would never do it personally. Off-duty's tend to have their firearm with them at all times regardless and nothing says they were drinking either.. or the fact that just because someone is at a bar means they are drinking. However assuming they were and had a firearm with them .. i dont anyone's going to think oh darn were about to get shot up, but I had a bud light so im just going to have hope someone else saves my life, at least not a off duty anyway.  I could be wrong .. but in that kind of a situation if your choices were between death and maybe some legal trouble ... i know which one i would choose.

Not sure what they do in CA. I think it would be the agency that writes the policy.  Some agencies forbid carrying off duty if you're drinking.  Some flat out forbid carrying "anywhere alcohol is served" whether you're drinking or not.

Many agencies make off duty carry optional.  It used to be you were expected to carry 24/7/365.

28 year old Marine veteran, served in Afghanistan - Machine Gunner

Suffering from PTSD and mental health issues.

Local Sheriff has had multiple "run-ins" with him. The sheriff described Long as irate, irrational, and said he might have been suffering from PTSD from his military background.

The weapon was a 45 caliber Glock 21 and was legally obtained.” Had 30 round extended mags, reloaded at least once.

Lived with his mother, known to kick walls in. Mom had lots of problems with him.

Well, first shot was outside. But otherwise, shooting into a packed crowd that's moving at a single target is irresponsible.

So we have another shooter who was well known by local LEOs, but nothing was done to intervene or get him help. Where have we seen this movie before?

Police say they have "had several contacts with Mr. Long over the years for minor offenses."

He was a victim of assault and battery in a bar in 2015. The police then confirmed that in April of this year, officers were called to Long's house: "officers went to his house, he was somewhat irate, acting a little irrationally."

The officers then called out their Crisis Intervention Team, "and mental health specialists who met with him, talked to him, and cleared him, didn't feel he was qualified to be taken under 5150."

The bodies of the victims aren't even cold yet, but it starts anyway.....

After California shooting, Democrats vow to tackle gun violence

As news of the mass shooting at a California bar unfolded, several Democrats promised to use their new majority in the House to address gun violence.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein blasted Trump and Republicans for the gun violence that's plagued the nation, particularly in the past few weeks.

"This failure to act is cowardice of epic proportions. We may not be able to stop all gun violence, but that doesn’t mean Republicans should be allowed to bury their heads in the sand and not try to stop any of it," Feinstein said.

Feinstein also maintained that despite California's staunch gun laws, the state can't keep guns coming in from other states "without stronger laws."

(Hey Diane, maybe you should go for a 5 round mag limit, after all, we all know criminals ALWAYS follow existing laws, right)

Florida Rep. Ted Deutch, a Democrat, said his party "will take up comprehensive, nation-wide reforms, but we can’t make our communities safer if we don’t do this together."

In the words of Rahm Emanual.. "Never let a good crisis go to waste!"

Fox news reported "armed with a Glock 21 .45-caliber handgun with an illegal extended magazine" ... how can that be true!!!  These magazine laws were supposed to prevent this and save lives, he could not have been carrying an extended mag if it was not legal!  Oh right, bad guys do not follow laws, only the good guys do ... if the Fox news report is accurate this is perfect example of why these laws are useless.

So, since there might be a chance of an innocent being shot by the off duty cops, they should just back down, and not engage the shooter, and let him continue his rampage?

Isn't "shooting into a packed crowd" exactly what that shooter was doing?

Well yea .. but these are off duty officers with training.  Im going to make a wild assumption and say they would be able to know when and when its not safe to shoot.
