disagree on point #1; what if I wanted to turn the heat on?  I get for 99% of the time that is not true but that 1% is the issue and too many officers do not use judgement here.  'Arrest them and let the lawyers figure it out' is something I've heard more than once.

I hate the whole 'intent' laws as it gets to thought policing.

We can disagree on point 1 all we want but that's the way it's been for at least 45 years that I know.

"Arrest them and let the lawyers figure it out" is something I've heard for some time.  Most often that's done with contraband found in a common area and no one ups to it being theirs.  However that's not a standard way of doing business in law enforcement.  Cops don't make their careers by making bum arrests and writing crappy tickets.

You're not going to hear about the breaks cops give people for a variety of reasons.

Sounds good to me!  Though I may have to buy a new shotgun, as my mossberg shockwave isn’t a shotgun all, but a pistol gripped firearm I was able to buy without a permit to purchase. That’s to long of a discussion for 1210am

Much appreciated. I think he thinks I picked a fight with him based on another post of mine in a FB 2a group, but when no one calls you out for a long period of time and someone finally does, it may be a little upsetting for him.

i read most f that post. you should cop[y/paste it to here

Anytime a search warrant is executed, the police don't know what they are walking into. The people don't know they are coming. There is a risk of death and injury to both sides.

yes sir, thought that is what you meant but wanted to make sure.  thx

yes I know on #1 but it's not something I like.  I'd rather 99 guilty go free than 1 innocent get tied up.  I liken it to the death penalty although obviously the consequences are not as severe:)

as for the 'let the lawyers figure it out', that's morphed into a lot more than contraband and that is an issue.

absolutely agree on the breaks too, I agree far more good is NOT heard.  I just tend to lean on the safer side with the whole 'intent' stuff.  I can say I'm gonna beat my kid but I'd never do it........I don't think....lol...I kid I kid..

good discussion though!!!!

very true and it's when the veil of law enforcement will be tested and ripped off.  I know no one in my family would support this at all but how many will?

So I guess everyone with a Beretta 92, Sig 226, or any other pistol with an OEM 16+ round mag has already been contacted under the old 15 round limit?    Funny, I never heard anything about that.

And my CZ75 that has 17 round mags, never got a knock on the door about them, never had any LEO's at the range question their capacity, only made comments about it being a nice gun. I thought I had made those "high capacity" mags legal years ago when I used a pop rivet to limit the follower to 15 rounds (the LEO's at the range said it was legal), now I have been told a pop rivet is no longer legal to limit them to 10 rounds, so away they went. :(

Now I need to spend a LOT of money for NJ Legal 10 rounders if I chose to continue using that gun. It's going to hibernate for a long time, I have plenty of others to chose to use.

I am responding to the lawyer's comments only as a (possible) public service to my friends here. I have no interest in debating this or responding to anything that follows.

NY gun owners allegedly possessed around 1 million banned rifles when the "SAFE" Act passed. I read that fewer than 50,000, five percent, complied with the assault rifle ban. I've also not heard of any door-to-door raids to seize the banned rifles or prosecute their owners. If history is our guide then there is zero chance that my legal status as of 12:01 am tomorrow morning will be of any consequence. I say "history" as if everything we read, even from our side, is true. It isn't.

That doesn't mean that the individual now occupying the state's highest office will not think of some creative way to enforce his new fake law, perhaps by making examples of a few individuals. The IRS does this every year around the beginning of April. Ask Willie Nelson, Leona Helmsley, and Martha Stewart (who was not even convicted of tax evasion but of lying to someone whose entire existence is based on lies).

I define risk as the product of the likelihood of something happening and the worst consequences thereof. I'm reasonably sure someone who looks an awful lot like a gopher on an extended bender, surrounded by storm troopers, will not be visiting me any time soon. I'm not so sure, however, that a governmental apparatus that knows the make and model of every gun I own (and probably every round of ammo I've ever purchased) will not try its darndest to make life miserable for me.

Three to ten years in jail for me is a non-starter. At my age, and in my current mood, I will not go, because a conviction, one way or another, is the end for me of everything I value on this earth. I do not want to be one of the lucky bastards set up as an example.

Think about this, your life, your family, before you post anything stupid in this forum or make any decisions about yourself and guns.

I would assume this is the first high capacity mag charge:

That was a while ago in NY which has had a 10 round limit for years. 1 feature on a semi auto since 2013.

It is dated "Published 1:00 p.m. ET July 9, 2018".  What's more I believe your thinking of the Ramapo jerks.  I heard this tonight on 101.5 and looked it right up.  It's recent.

If I recall correctly, these 3 guys accidentally crossed the NJ border into NY, hence the shit storm.

Yes because you can not even touch a handgun in NY state if you don't have a NY pistol permit. The only exceptions are at an NRA certified range with an NRA instructor, or at an NRA sanctioned pistol match.

Most of his recent posts are. Really makes me question his professionalism. Those type of posts are totally irresponsible and unprofessional. I would expect some Redneck to post something like that, but NOT an attorney.

I asked the question earlier, is there any slim possibility he knows something the AG is going to do, or is this just true fear mongering?

Now why would you go and insult rural Americans like that?  I think Citiots would be  more likely to post something foolish crap on the web...

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.

Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
