The Ten round mag law

Recommended Posts

I got to thinking when I cleaned out my safe how my life has gone in a circle. Back in 1985 my first handgun was a colt series 80 Gold Cup 7 round mag.  Back than I thought that was the greatest gun in the world.  No other would ever take its place for a few years.  Than Came Glock, Beretta, Walther,  HK,  and Springfield.   After getting angry about the Murphy mag law I got to thinking again how my Colt Gold cup, along with my Glock 30 will serve me well in NJ.  Back in 1985 I felt well protected with a Colt .45.  Its true what they say. Sometimes life does go in circles.

I don't feel that way I just refuse to play ball in NJ. Its a big country.  NJ was lost along time ago.  Unless your a cop or connected I don't see a future for firearm ownership in that state.  Its very easy for you to say you being a retired cop.  The rules don't apply to you.

  • The laws are merely the Socialists preparing to take over the state. Between them and Rinos, we are , well you know. We need to get smart, local level , county, state levels to reclaim our state and nation. I am an RPO, I do not like that there are differences between us, most of all I know that LEOs, RPOs and civilians are all in the same boat. Socialists want us occupied fighting  against each other. I have also heard LEOs and RPOs telling their friends they will hold the 15 round magazines.

The point is I got to thinking it was good enough in 1985 I should feel no way under gunned in 2018. 45acp is a great HD round.  I was surprised how many mags I had in my safe when I did the clean out.

Undergunned? Well, perhaps, but,,,,,there didn't SEEM to be as many evildoers carrying in '85, nor was there the same potential firepower that is available. And to top it off these very same evildoers are now better armed than we law-abiding potential victims thanks to Murphy and his kind. Bloomberg, Soros, etc.

I agree that 45ACP is a terrific HD tool, just wish there were more to dump out before spending the 2.9 seconds it takes to swap out the mag. (I'm thinking of the 1911 type, of course, among the most popular renditions of the delivery systems out there).

It is not the point. Most likely 10 rounds are good enough for self defense. By the same reasoning the government should put a speed limiter on your car. 65 MPH is fast enough in NJ

Not if you're leaving the state.  When I finally move out, I'll be in a big-ol-hurry to get to the state line.

know the solution to the mag law?(for now) carry more mags. practice. carry 2 pistols. practice weak hand shooting.

Carry where?  In my home?  Garage?  To my property line (50x100 foot lot in Bergen County)?

Not everyone on here can.

I noticed something else about 10 or less rounds that may put this Murphy law into perspective. For years I've was buying 3 guns a year in NJ. Most were 15 round mags.  Now fast forward to today in Florida where I can carry.  I find I like my Glock 42 best for carry with a spare mag. Its the most comfortable.   I like the Glock 26, XD Mod 2 SC , or the HK VP9sk with a spare mag. They do have their time an place but I find they just don't carry as comfortable for me.  Many of my friends in Florida are carrying and relying  on smaller guns. The Sig P365 sales are on fire down here.  I know HD and CC are two different subjects but in someways the're related.   I hate the fact that NJ keeps changing the rules for us but we're going to have to play the hand that's dealt to us. Play the game as best you can until you can get out.  On a side note I haven't bought anything since I've been down here.  NJ and Murphy  has put a bad taste in my mouth.

Point? Or just trolling?

Trolling?  I think your post is!  Stop being a douche.  You young wiffer snapper.  And obviously you are not a 1911 fan. =)

In reality, I was thinking about this too.  Yes, the 10 round mag law is draconian but... I do think it will re-ignite the passion people had for classic revolvers and the 1911 platform.

Personally, already made the decision that if I am traveling for a match in NJ, it will be to shoot Single Stack division and will be picking up another 1911 in the future as permitting.

Socialists preparing to take over the state?  Already happened.  Just look at the underlying demographics, until those shift, it is a lost cause.

Why do people chose to live in NJ?  Because they value proximity to NYC, and generally anything you want hobby or culture wise available.  They value that more than higher taxes and personal freedoms.

Having cross the border, granted still 10 mins away from NJ and within 1:15 of NYC... the life priorities here are different than the rat race in NJ.

All you have to do is take a look at the amounts of business owners on the forum who are still here... Yes, some have residences outside the state too but... generally there is a conscious decision to stay and being in the minority.

Quite frankly gun owners in NJ are like steak salesman standing outside a Vegan restaurant complaining that no one wants the steak.

The hard core gun owners in NJ already likely live in the North West or South Jersey... and well... they are merely losing mags in boating accidents.

Need to go get new people to the range.

I'm in Central NJ one of the few Republican areas of the state.  Granted Chris Smith is a RINO.  Also not my Rep anymore due to the Gerrymandering that was permitted here, but is still for my parents in the next town over.  I did lose the few mags I had due to a Rogue Wave while target shooting in International Waters.  Probably wasn't the best idea going that far out in a 25' boat when the seas were so rough but other than losing the mags we made it back safe.

Too bad you were not rowing your boat in your backyard lake.

More bad guys then than NOW? Ok, I suppose that could be,,,,,,,,,,, call me a skeptic.

But there are more, better weapons out there today than there was then. And with the current state of affairs in Jersey I'm sure the baddies have more firepower than non LEO types who abide by these draconian laws here.

As long as it's only one bad guy, and as long as your skills under stress allow for 10 rounds to be enough. I've seen stories where many, many rounds were fired and very few hits on target. By the people hired and trained to do so.

"65 MPH is fast enough in NJ"

My Lamborghini isn't capable of speeds below 90 MPH.  :p

a buddy of mine told me today that one of his clients said that this 10 round mag thing is on its way to the supreme court? anyone hear anything 'bout this?

That would be the next step after this next hurdle.   Right now what I know is the carry case has been put forth up to the US Supreme Court.  Hopefully they will hear the case fall 2019.  The mag case however, the last I heard on that is we asked the 3rd circuit to overrule the 3 judge ruling via a rehearing  by en banc .. ie all of the 3rd circuit judges.   I think after that stage if it doesn't go our way ..the next step would be to petition the US Supreme Court
