Sniper 6,372 Posted January 1, 2019 Is the term "Assault Rifle" an actual item that can be purchased. Which manufacturer sells an assault rifle by name? Does PSA have an "assault rifle" category of rifles? Also, this is more of the "creeping in" of chipping away at the 2A, little by little....... Is it time yet????? SEATTLE — Washington on Tuesday joined a handful of other states that ban anyone under 21 from buying a semi-automatic assault rifle after voters passed a sweeping firearms measure in November that has drawn a court challenge from gun-rights advocates. The ballot initiative seeks to curb gun violence by toughening background checks for people buying assault rifles, increasing the age limit to buy those firearms and requiring the safe storage of all guns. Only the age-limit portion of the measure goes into effect on Jan. 1; the rest becomes law on July 1. "Starting today, young adults between the ages of 18 to 20 will have their rights to purchase semi-automatic rifles stripped away," said Dave Workman, a spokesman for the Bellevue, Washington-based Second Amendment Foundation. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/washington-bans-anyone-under-21-buying-assault-rifles-n953576
Greenday 323 Posted January 2, 2019 Manufacturers should just start calling everything "defense rifles" and "personal protections handguns".
voyager9 3,417 Posted January 2, 2019 Don’t think N.J. doesn’t have this same thing queued up. As far as I know there has only been one “mass shooting” where the shooter was under 21 and legally bought the rifle used in the attack (Parkland). Also, WA wasn’t the first to pass this. Where do the other challenges stand? Just now, Greenday said: Manufacturers should just start calling everything "defense rifles" and "personal protections handguns". You kid, but the term “modern sporting rifle” is a thing. While it happens to be more accurate than “assault weapon”, it’s still NewSpeak.

Semiautomatic assault rifle? That's made up. Those looking to restrict your rights call them "assault weapons". That term is made up too.
Maksim 1,504 Posted January 2, 2019 On one hand, if the ballot measure passed, I think the people have spoken, or not enough gun people care. On the other hand... this is what Washington has become... it was never a bastion for gun rights anyway as it is really... Seattle... the new hippy yippie yuppie capital of the world for those that can't afford San Fran. Don't know anything about WA gun laws but assuming it defines assault rifle based on features? And isn't it 21 to buy a handgun in NJ now anyway? Wonder if with their laws legal to transfer or gift a gun to those under 21. Feel good legislation? Absolutely. Would it solve violence? Doubt it. A step at tearing up gun rights in the state? Absolutely. Realistically all it would do is make people move East... (from Washington).

Even more deadly than just plain semiautomatic ones. I think it's time now!

I grew up there (Seattle suburbs) and there is a big difference between Seattle metro area and the suburbs and rural. Especially if you live East if the Cascade mountains. Completely different state. Until fairly recently I thought there was stronger 2A support, but recent laws and ballot initiatives have changed that. Still better than NJ, pretty sure you can still CCW with no major issues, but things are getting worse.

Scott supported more gun control than normal prepping for his senate run in hopes to be gather independent and moderate dem votes. The law doesn’t not prevent a transfer from family member. DeSantis is much more conservative that Scott.
