My first Law enforcement encounter while CC

Recommended Posts

I took a 2 hour drive north up to the Tampa Florida fair.  Before I left I checked the Fair web page for their policy on CC. I found very little. After we parked the car I was standing at the main entrance ticket booth and noticed metal detectors and a few deputies. I walked up and asked if concealed weapons were permitted on the fair grounds.   He asked if I had one. I told him I did and he asked for my CWFL.  He got on his radio and ran the number. It came back with my full name and he said follow me around the line and the metal detectors.  He than said have a nice day.  I waited for my wife and noticed other deputies escorting others around the line as well.   Very professional law enforcement agency.

I checked the Delaware AG site to see if it referred to reciprocity with regards to a Maine Non-resident permit.  Although it honors a Maine resident permit, it made no mention of a non-resident permit.  So I do as I normally do when it comes to travel and sent my question to the AG office.  His response was he wasn't allowed to tell me or be a guide for my conduct and refused me an answer referring me to a lawyer.  This is a first for me.  Has anyone encountered this?

Your Maine Non resident CCW is GOOD for Delaware.

treat 99% of LE with respect and follow the rules and you won't have a problem.  This is pretty much the rule for most life with most people and things

Agree.

I agree.  Be respectful.   LE should follow the rules and treat 100% of the citizens that are treating them with respect the same respect back.

Just a heads up and I'm sure you all are aware that there are states in which you must notify the LEO that you are CCW at traffic stops.  This is the case in SC where I live. So after I greet the LEO that's the first thing I tell him.  Automatically give him DL and CWP.  Most recently as I was going for my wallet he asked where the weapon was.  I just tapped my hip with my wallet and said "right here".  All went smooth of course.

There’s a gambit of rules to learn. Gun in the car. No gun in the car. Wearing the gun in the car. Can’t wear the gun while in the car. Leaving gun in glove box. Leaving gun in lock box. And so on. And that doesn’t start to address the rules of engagement in each state. I’m learning a lot.

One thing for sure, if this national reciprocity ever comes about there sure will be wrinkles to iron out.

I just as soon deal with national reciprocity with all the different rules in each state.

@BobA:

For what it it worth, when I decided to take a multi-state road trip, before I embarked on the trip and based on the back-and-forth discussion in this CCW section, I purchased, read and updated regularly a number of concealed carry iPhone apps, including: CCW, CCA, Posted and LegalHeat.  They were recommended to me by other posters here, in addition to studying the gun laws of each of the states I planned to visit.  That was somewhat tedious and laborious, but a necessary task, that was made much easier by using these Apps.

Also, using the advice from @HBecwithFn7 and as a cheat-sheet reminder, I wrote on an index card for each of these states, Y or N for if one is required to inform a LEO that I am conceal carrying, as well as which of my non-resident CCW permits is recognized and honored in that state.  I was consciously aware of what the law was/is, relative to each state, as to whether or not, if stopped, one must voluntarily inform a LEO that you are carrying.  Specifically, the individual state law that dictates that if stopped by a LEO, you are required to immediately and voluntarily notify the LEO that you are carrying, and display not just the usual Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and Auto Insurance ID Card, but the applicable CCW Permit card.  As one poster noted previously, in some states, you are not required to notify immediately, but only "if asked by" or "upon demand of" the LEO, (i.e. "Are you carrying any weapons?" or, "Are there any weapons in the car?").  Thankfully, I was not stopped by any LEO for any reason on this trip so did not have to deal with that situation.

The laws are constantly changing and the onus is on us to make sure that we are aware of and abide by whatever each state's requirements are.  While I agree that it is a royal PITA, it is something that we have to do...

I am SW off of the Spreader on Surfside.

Surfside Blvd  has beautiful homes.  Our builder Latitude 26 built a few on that block. Waterfront lots are very expensive on that street. You live in a very nice part of town.  How long have you been there?

Thank you, been here since the house was built in 2013. It was new construction. Love the wide canal and mangroves out back framing the awesome sunsets.

Where your at is great.  You'll never have to worry about anyone building behind you. You home value will just keep going up on that street.  I like driving down Surfside at night looking at how nice the homes look lit up. Beautiful landscaping.  I tried to copy the lighting package on your street.  We just built this year.

Cape Coral Florida has to be the worlds best kept secret for waterfront gulf access lots.  I saw this one today direct gulf 80ft on the water for $56,900 https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Cape-Coral-FL/pmf,pf_pt/66155041_zpid/30742_rid/globalrelevanceex_sort/26.737093,-82.052346,26.723352,-82.072839_rect/15_zm/
