New online permitting system?!?

Actually, they took about a month last time I applied via the paper trail, so not too bad. They just seem to be a little "slow" as in mental processing, hick town.

That's definitely true. My town is a "red" town, so there isn't too many obstructions, except for just being pineys.

Right, me too.  We didn't have to pay that when we did normal paper trail permits, just the $2 per permit, did we?

I'll be interested when I talk to the guy in charge tomorrow what their deal is with accepting online apps.

I suppose I could have skipped the online thing and just paid the $6. But then I would have had to wait for snail mail letters from my references. I don't need another handgun, this was a test of the new system......I am very curious to see how much this speeds it up!

I seem to be the first online person to apply! This may delay my permits as they seek answers as to how to handle it. I somehow expect to have permits in hand in less than a week from my online application. We shall see!

Same with me. I wasn't craving anything special, but thinking, if Murphy goes all communist, maybe now's the time to fill in any holes in the stable, before we're forced back to muskets.

If I happen across a nice Luger P08 shooter and a good 1911 I would use a couple permits for sure! :) All future long arms will be outside the PRNJ......same with ammo purchases! Screw this bastard state!

Don't buy guns if you already have some.  Instead, buy ammunition for your existing guns.

Is it time yet for a NJGF group pallet purchase of assorted calibers? Who has a fork lift?

FYI, it took just over 2 weeks for my permit approval using the new online system.

I recieved the approval email this morning, and a phone call from the detective yesterday said he’d have them ready at the end of the week.

Much improved from the last time I applied for permits.

I have a gen 5 g19 I’ve been looking to get rid of.  Has factory night sights

Thanks but I prefer they gen3/4. I like the finger grooves.

Im indifferent to finger grooves, I dislike the “cut out” on the bottom of the grip.

I submitted application on 3/13@ 730PM. Got an email this morning (3/20) stating permits ready for pickup.

Why is this not available state-wide yet?  I submitted my paperwork package to the NJSP barracks for my area on January 22 and I'm still waiting:angry::ireful:

At least some people are getting the benefit of this new system.

Yeah, the state.  I'm sorry but I refuse to believe they created a system to make things better for us.  There's more to it.

Well, I guess your post confirms what I suspected.  This on-line system will speed up the process for some municipal police departments but if you have to use a SP barracks, like I do, apparently nothing has changed.

I believe it is most of the state now, but not back in January when you applied. I think the system came online in February. Strange that you think the SP isn't using the system in your area. The application is on the SP web site and they process all the initial applications first, plus the criminal background check runs through the SP web site too.

Did you call them directly and ask if they are using the new system?

March 20th 2019 10:20pm.  Morris County, Mt. Olive. I just submitted my application and texted my two references. I doubt they'll fill it out tonight but I'll keep you updated. I'm usually around 3 weeks.

I did the background check online where I had to pay the $20 and print the receipt and turn it in with the rest of the paperwork.  I didn't find out about the entire process being done online until a couple weeks after I turned in my paperwork.  I see others had been posting that their areas in NJ don't do it online yet so its not available everywhere yet.  Really I have nothing better to do besides complain while I wait for the state to give me permission to exercise my constitutional rights because its been well over the 30 days they are supposed to take in giving me permission.

One of my references already received and filled out the form. The second hasn't gotten the email yet. According to FAQ on the site they'll get reminder emails.

What can I do if my reference hasn’t received the email or hasn’t submitted the feedback? top

While the system sends two reminder emails to references who haven’t submitted the feedback, you can contact your municipal police department to request them to resend the email or to update the reference.

Hopefully he'll get one of those otherwise I'll have to go to my local PD next Wednesday on my day off.

Two things, make sure the email address that was put down for them is correct. You only get one shot at that.

Second, tell them to check their Spam or junk folders. If one reference received the email, the other one should have too, unless it never got there.

I took a picture of the confirmation page last night and sent it to him to make sure his addy was correct. He said it was, I just asked him again to be sure. Also he checked his spam last night and this afternoon.

      Hello all,
Some opinions please.  I am a long time NJ resident and also a resident in SC.  I spend 8 months out of the year in NJ out of necessity.  When I leave NJ I carry everywhere as I have multiple CWP's.  I have purchased many pistols legally in NJ over the years.
I was thinking about getting some new permits to pee...(my term for the Pistol Permit) but with all the BS that had been going on I was thinking about refraining.
I also have completed all the NJ CWP permit applications, but I am not sure I am actually going to apply.  I don't need to put up with the NJ BS.  To me it's insulting.  Plus with all the restrictions coming and being tied up in the courts for probably years, it may be just a futile exercise.   I would rather just leave when my house is build in SC and buy it there.  Once I switch my license to SC, its cash and carry for me.
I have the old, non-expiring FID.  What I do not want to happen is if I go apply for new permits to pee, that my FID gets converted to an expiring one and then I have to pay a renewal fee.
I did read the new regs and it looks like they are grandfathering old FID folks to the non expiring one but this is NJ...what is written in law is usually ignored by the class warfare system we have here and the horrible mentality and attitude of some of these LEO's and NJSP officers that think their personal bias is important and the sneers you get when you go pay the $2.
      Am I being paranoid?

I just got my FID for long guns, although I don't know anything about guns or ammo. What is a good gun to get my hands on that will help me learn more but won't break the bank, at the same time being ideal at home defense?

      Hello,
I have two questions regarding FID application. So I have seen three psychiatrists for ADD, and while I know this is not a disqualifying factor, I do not know the exact dates or years that I attended, and mind you that I am currently 20 and attended from ages around 7 to 17 or 18. This is a problem because the application asks this, and then asks for the names and dates of such occurences. Is it okay if I state that I do not know the dates of such occurences, or if I give the date estimations of which (I do know the names)?
My second question is regarding references. I do not know any police officers well enough to be able to ask them to use them for my FID, so will two friends that I grew up with do just fine? Thank you.

Hello, new owner of a handgun in NJ. Had a question for all of you experts out there! I keep seeing all these different things online so I have an suv so the trunk area is accessible to the back seat area. From my understanding, it needs to be locked in a case and its fine to be in the trunk of my suv? Also my other question.. the ammo.. that needs to be in a separate case? Does it need to have a lock on it or can it just be a bag with a zipper?

A fellow forum was asking about a display case for his wife’s pistol I believe. So I decided after seeing some display cases for insane prices, to make my own out of more or less cheap prices.
This one will be for my Nighthawk Custom Falcon 1911.
I started out with a humidor I had when I was on a cigar kick with the club.
Humidors make perfect cases for your gun.
Why? Its designed to keep moisture in so your cigars don’t dry out. Ones that are well made have a nice tight seal.
‘But John, we don’t want to keep moisture in. It will hurt the gun’. Correctomundo! But using it to keep moisture out works too! If you are not a cigar smoker, a humidor keeps the cigars from drying out by putting a moisture pad inside. We simply won’t be using the moisture pad nor the cheapo humidity gauge they usually give you.
So lets start. One used but still in great shape humidor with glass lid. If you don’t have one, you can pick up something decent for about $50. I added a lik leather NH tag to use to open lid. They are air tight and easier to open with something to grab.

If you use a humidor, they sometimes come with a lil shelf and divider. Toss them.
Next, we added a little antique bronze clasp. 5 for $12 on Amazon. They come with tiny wood screws. You’ll need a jeweler type phillips head and a small awl to start a hole. Do not screw in without a starter hole. Also a mini pad lock with skeleton key.

Next, you’ll want something to lay in there like velvet. I chose purple velvet. Rather than buy it by the yard, I actually got 2 - 14”x14” pillow shams with zippers on Amazon for about $11...
This is a lot cheaper than buying it by the yard plus you don’t gave to sew anything. Just stuff it and zip it.

You will need something to stuff it. That is your choice. I already had a bag of poly fill from another project. You can even rio open al old pillow and use the guts.

Next is rechargeable Silica packs. I got a 25 count bag cheap also on Amazon. I chose to line the bottom of the case and also throw some inside the sham.

Once you beat it and adjust it to get in the right position, you can see how the gun sits and adjust as needed.
Next is optional and not cheap. I picked up 2 - Sensor Push bluetooth temp/humidity sensors for $50 each. One for the box and one for my safe. After calibrating them and pairing them to my phone, I inserted one into the display case.

You don’t have to do this but I’m a bit of a tech nerd so.... [emoji6]
You can also use a cheap digital one too.
This one transmits data and stores 20 points which you can set alarms in the app if moisture increases. Kind of more important in my safe but....[emoji16]
Here is a sample of the data. I just put them in so it will take time to level off.

That’s pretty much it. Outside of the sensors, its cheap, easy and looks great. You can fo crazy with it or go simple.
