Murphy moves to ‘name and shame’ gunmakers whose weapons end up on the street

Although, unprofessional of me to say so, Murphy is an ass-hole and he is wrong on so many levels. The manufacturers have no control over who buys civilian manufactured firearms---it is up to the FFL's to run the background check after the initial purchaser or subsequent purchaser indicates that he or she is the intended recipient of the firearm.  The manufacturers cannot know, what is in the mind of a qualified purchaser or control what they do with the firearm. Unless it is obvious to an FFL, the firearm is being purchased for another individual, there is no way to stop this except to enforce existing state and federal law in the rare instance a straw purchase situation can actually be proven.  It is shit like this, that just steals headlines and sounds good to his uninformed base. We can only hope he is not re-elected.

I'm pretty sure the Gun manufactures are losing sleep over this..

They make a Legal product.   We as FFL's run the appropriate and mandated background check.

Guess we should be shaming GM and Ford when their assault vehicles are used by a drunk driver and innocent people are killed.  Shit maybe the NJ AG should charge homedepot with aiding terrorists because someone rented a HD truck and ran over people in NYC.

If he wants to shame someone he should start with his Dentist.

1 minute ago, Mr.Stu said:

If Murphy is really against gun manufacturing, maybe he should stop the State buying weapons from them - lead by example.

Does anybody have a list of the volume of guns from each manufacturer that are carried by NJ LEOs?

Since most departments buy separately.. I doubt there is a running total thats easy to obtain.

Useless move by a useless governor.  Not one word about the person using the firearms in a crime.

The only way to stop criminals is to go old school.  You have to go Medieval on their azz.

Democratic Politicians never call out their voting block for the problems they cause in society.

Its easier to blame someone else. JMHO.

From the article in the OP:

"...But Murphy said the money, which would go to the state’s general fund without being dedicated to any specific purpose, could "go toward combating trafficking” and “bulking up the ranks of state troopers” in the State Police."

or to provide tuition payments for illegal aliens or to pay for abortions for those who can neither keep their legs closed nor afford to kill their children, both born and unborn.

...Grewal said gunmakers could “demand that their dealers work to adopt strong measures against straw purchasers” — people legally permitted to purchase firearms and who buy them on behalf of those with criminal backgrounds or other disqualifying factors. ...

As long as those straw purchasers/receivers aren't illegal immigrants, right Gurbir?  That particular set of straw purchasers should just be left alone, right?

GOVERNOR MURPHY ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF
GUN CRIME PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN

March 12, 2019.  Today, Governor Murphy announced the expansion of a gun crime propaganda campaign begun by his administration nearly one year ago.

In addition to monthly and quarterly publication of New Jersey gun crime data (circumventing federal restrictions banning the release of gun trace data), the Murphy administration will now also be including data identifying the manufacturers of recovered firearms.  Reporting such data falsely implies that legal, highly-regulated manufacturers are somehow responsible for the actions of those who unlawfully acquire and misuse their products -- like holding car manufacturers responsible for the theft and criminal misuse of their cars.

In addition to attempting to "name and shame" gun manufacturers who have done nothing wrong, the propaganda campaign also appears intended to coerce gun manufacturers into adopting and following various demands of anti-gun advocates.

The move appears to be part of a larger regional effort by Murphy's coalition of anti-gun states to manipulate data for the purpose of influencing public policy not only in New Jersey but in other states as well. Unfortunately, the reporting by the Murphy administration would be entirely one-sided, and would completely ignore reporting of the hundreds of thousands of times each year nationwide that the mere presence of a legal firearm stops crime, often without a shot fired.

Governor Murphy also took the opportunity to renew his call to the legislature to punish law-abiding gun owners for the acts of criminals and madmen with higher gun permits and fees.

Meh. It's not like the ***holes who care about this would have purchased a firearm anyway. You can't be economically hurt by losing a sale you were never going to get.

Politicians would not be so contemptible if they spent time trying to fix real issues instead of wanking around with things for window dressing.

... and every manufacturer named should immediately refuse to do business with NJ.  For the major manufactures, NJ is a drop in the bucket.  But let the NJSP and locals all be forced to use non-major manufacturers and see how fast the state goes quiet again.

Can you imagine the NJSP carrying no-name firearms?
