Looking to add flooring to attic for storage. Any structural engineers/architects here?

Hell if I know. I've got more crap up there that you could fit in a C-130.

When the ceiling sags I just brace it with a 4x4 and a bottle jack from Harbour Freight.

Have been living in my home for 20 years, the C-130 reference best describes my attic as well!

After reading this thread I now find myself worrying about my house imploding into itself. lol.     Time to clean up the attic.

Just throwing this out... You can sandwich the joist between 1/4 Inch full length steel plates and bolt them together...

That's what we are going to do in the basement on the main laminate beam so we can remove the center column.

Have you decided if you’re going to start a new thread on column removal or drag this one on?  I vote new one.

Hmmm...how about this: “Would You Hire a Contractor with Herpes?” thread?

It’s a cold sore dude!

Nope... I would rather get herpes than ask for advice on construction here.

There is also no danger of the ceiling collapsing in the Taylor Ham/pork roll thread.  That's closer to you say toe-mah-toe, I say toe-may-toe.

If you eat enough delicious Taylor Ham or knockoff pork roll, maybe there IS a danger of a floor collapse...

But yea, in terms of "my 'wood' is bigger than yours" - there's more than enough in this thread...
