529 College Savings Plan

Thank you! That should be obvious... but not to a CNBC reporter (obviously). This whole trend of people blatantly trying to shirk paying their college debt ticks me off.  What irresponsible schmucks are we raising these days? If you don't want a bunch of debt... the formula is simple:

  • think long and hard about whether college is even the best choice for you (as others have mentioned, there are other tracks), but if you DO choose college:
  • give due weight to affordability (state schools, commutable locations, 2 years at community college, etc.)
  • give Dept of Labor and demographic projections ample consideration while selecting your major, so that you're moving with trends and not against them
  • avail yourself of college experiences that give you a leg-up on other candidates upon graduation (e.g., summer internships, co-ops, etc.).

And, if you do the opposite of all that... don't expect Mr./Ms. Taxpayer to pick up the tab for your silly-ass, poor choices.

Previous administration bred that into that generation. Free school, free healthcare, blah blah blah. They will not accept any form of criticism. Do not hold themselves responsible for anything. It's never their fault. And think that "the rich" will pay for it.

That article proves it. The author of the article proves it.

I'm not sure I'd lay it ALL at the feet of one administration... but you're definitely right that there's a recent, obvious trend towards, "I should NOT have to pay for stuff.... not for my education, not for my health insurance, and not for my agreed-to debts." Doesn't bode well for the future.

This is true..

Remember, like 80% of Millennials (the ones with the debt I mentioned in the article above) voted for Socialist Bernie, because he promised FREE everything... and he's running again, along with many MORE Socialist candidates..

I keep telling you people, if the economy melts down before the 2020 election (which by the looks of data and trends, it will), a Socialist promising all this free crap can win! Plan accordingly..

Yep. Bernie scares me. I believe he would have beat Trump if Hillary hadn't screwed (paid) over Bernie.  Bernie had some serious momentum going into the election.

Agree.  But I'm sure other morons have slid into their place. The ones that weren't old enough to vote in 16'.

Remember, that whole group are hypocrites, as long as he keeps promising free shit, they'll vote for him. Hell, Greenday can't wait for the primaries so he can vote again for his King.

Don't be one of these parents and risk your own personal financial future and retirement.

  • More than half of parents are willing to go into debt to put their kids through school, according to a new report by Country Financial.
  • Risking your own financial future for the sake of your kids’ college education is a big mistake, experts say.

The average person said they would go $31,000 in the red for their child, the April 2019 survey of more than 1,000 adults found.

To that end, 29% of parents said they would forfeit vacations and 26% would sacrifice their savings, Country Financial found. Eighteen percent said they would take out a loan and 17% would get an additional part-time job.

Still, 56% are willing to go into debt to put their kids through school, according to a new report by Country Financial.

However, it’s critically important for parents to take care of their own financial well-being first, he said. “The reality is that retirement savings is a necessity and a college fund is a luxury.”
