Saw Cold Blue (Movie) last night... WoW

Recommended Posts

I don't know why,  but it was a 1 night, 1 showing about the 8th Army Air Corp of WWII

I had to drive 35 miles to the closest theater and glad I did.

The documentary/movie was made of WWII cinematographers footage, re done in 4k.

These kids fought in extreme conditions and the Mighty 8th suffered the highest casualty rate of the entire war (Both Theaters) 28000 dead.

Atrrition rate of 75%. If you were shot down you had 30 seconds to bale out and was described as fighting 3g pressure to move out of.

My Dad flew 3rd Div 34th BG 33 missions over Nazi Germany, although he's still alive, I wish I could have taken him to see it. Logistically impossible.

Did anyone else see it?

My late father also served in the Mighty Eighth as a radio operator / gunner.

Shot down on his third mission in Jan 1944, he and 3 others from his crew evaded capture until they were returned to England in August.

Four others of his crew spent the balance of the war in a POW camp.

One made it over the Pyrenees into Spain and was back in England in a matter of weeks.

The pilot went down with the plane, the Hunyak, allowing his crew to safely bail out of the crippled Flying Fortress, and my late older sister was named after him as a tribute to his courage and supreme sacrifice.

The short version of his story here.
