NJ.com makes up new, scary terms for guns and accessories

Recommended Posts

It gets tiresome, pointing out the media's misuse of gun-related terminology, but this article manages to fabricate a few terms that I'd not seen before.

new fearmongering from NJ.com

I've got no problem with this guy getting convicted on the drug charges, and since he was already a convicted felon, he shouldn't have had the guns.  And some of the magazines do seem to be illegal under NJ's ill-conceived firearms laws.   The article does its' best to make it sound like his possession of white supremacist literature was another criminal offense (apparently confusing 'disturbing' with 'illegal'), but it is the verbiage they use to describe the guns and accessories that really stands out.   The man is accused of possessing, among other things:

  • "a semi-automatic assault handgun"
  • "a 9 mm semi-automatic assault pistol"
  • "two barrels sawed off from a double barrel shotgun"
  • "a sight for an assault rifle"
  • "a stripped AR15 bolt carrier"
  • "several solid and hollow point bullets"
  • "silencer tubes" (?)
  • "a ballistics vest"

So now we've got some body of readers wringing their hands over the fact that he was able to possess "several" bullets, and ready to demand that sights and tubes be added to the list of things they want banned and confiscated.

The guy is an obvious douche and deserves what he gets.

A stripped AR15 assault bolt carrier you say?!?!?!??!!!????!!??  OMFG,  WHAT THE HELL IS THAT????.....BAN IT !!!

Who wants to bet that, "Police seized a semi-automatic assault handgun, a 9mm semi-automatic assault pistol with a high-capacity magazine, [and] a loaded 9mm pistol",  all refers to the same pistol.

I also loved the obvious slant that white male racists are the majority of those n possession of illegal scary "assault firearms".

The new left agenda is; everything is racist, everyone is racist (if you're white), and all gun owners are racist and dangerous...

The Racist/ Gunz-R-Bad platform of the left will be ramped up for this election cycle.  Getting readers wringing their hands is exactly what is intended.  Stoking the fear of the ignorant to insure candidates that share their view and agenda get elected.  Beautiful.

I'm going to need to see pictures of this grenade launcher. Also, if two barrels were sawed off of a double barrel shotgun, wouldn't that make it a no barrel shotgun?

In all seriousness, we who practice the way of the gun are appalled by this stuff, but the common ignorant folks eat it up, which is exactly what the article is intended to do. Sad more than funny...

That one was weird, because there was no mention of finding a sawed-off shotgun (and they would have mentioned it!).   Just the sawed-off barrels.

So, if found in possession of a sawed-off shotgun AND the sawed-off barrels, does that demonstrate constructive intent to weld up a legal shotgun?   :-)

Rubino has been charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. He will appear in federal court in Newark at a later date, Carpenito said.

Who sends out the gun control talking points memo? Here's a paragraph from the NJ Herald:

"Authorities said they seized from the vehicle a semi-automatic assault handgun, a 9mm semi-automatic assault pistol with a high-capacity magazine, a loaded Smith & Wesson pistol, two sawed-off double-barrel shotgun barrels, a sight for an assault rifle, a stripped AR-15 bolt carrier, several rounds of high-capacity ammunition including 9mm hollow point cartridges and 12 magazines filled with 9mm solid point cartridges. Authorities also found a set of brass knuckles, a wooden ax handle, a wooden baseball bat and a wooden club."

Was this identical list released by the police or simply copied from a MSM email directive?

So firearm related deaths went up sharply for '16 & '17 even with the new common sense gun laws?
