Petition to ban gun sales at Walmart tops 129,000 signatures, lands on CEO’s desk

Recommended Posts

So, will Walmart roll over to political pressure, like Dick's did, and stop selling guns? Or will they support the constitution? Place your bets!!

......"That’s 23-year-old Walmart category specialist Thomas Marshall urging CEO Doug McMillon to take stricter measures aimed at curbing gun violence in the wake of recent mass shootings, according to the Washington Post.

Marshall, in a letter accompanying a petition signed by more than 129,000 employees and customers, is calling for Walmart to stop all sales of firearms and ammunition, ban the public from carrying guns into its stores and cease all donations to politicians backed by the National Rifle Association.

The movement to ban firearms at Walmart, which sells guns in about half of its 4,750 stores across the country, has also gained momentum on social media under the #WalmartMustAct hashtag."

More customers for the little guys.

Do you honestly think so?

I think those customers would end up going to another chain or your bigger retailers rather than the smaller or at home FFLs.

Walmart fills a major niche and provides pricing power and ability for people who would not otherwise be able to affoard a $450 to $500 bolt gun to being able to buy a fairly nice hunting gun (Ruger American, Thompson Center, Savage Axys) for around $300 with an ok scope.

They also do this for ammo... Where if there is a Walmart around you that sells ammo, you are likely to find the major calibers for essentially online prices, if not less.  Heck, I picked up a box of 224 Valkyrie for around $9.... the same ammo at Cabelas was close to $20... and same for most local FFLs.

Having Walmart get out of the firearms and/or ammo business would be a major loss for gun owners, much like if Taurus and Hi-Point left the handgun market.

129,000 may sound like a lot; but it doesn't even move the Walmart meter.

Agreed, there are over 100,000,000 Walmart customers.  This is at most 0.1% give or take. Then again, Publix caved to a handful of protesters over donating a few thousand to Republican candidates. (of which I made a large return of product back to them and stopped shopping there.)

There are several Wallmarts that don’t sell this already, like in NJ. So how many of these signatures are actually from free states?

Walmart probably sells 129,000 boxes of ammo a day.  Let the liberals shop at Target and real Americans can shop at Walmart.  Screw China and its crappy products, though.

Walmart is about making money, they will say what they have to and do what they have to do to make money.

Exactly.  Walmart will do for Walmart as it is good for Walmart.   They already have plenty of Walmarts where you can't buy this stuff.  If they do anything they will probably look at the numbers where certain suburban stores won't be effected by it.  Like NJ - oh wait that's right!

How many did it take to get Dick's to cave in?

Plus, if I were the CEO, I would look with suspicion upon those signatures.  Is there a Donald Duck or two mixed in?

It shows there are 129,000 mentally ill people who think Walmart is actually responsible for mass shootings..

I wonder if these same people blame Ford or Chevy for DWI killings?

The demographics of Dicks shoppers are completely different from walmart's. That made dicks way more susceptible to being willingly pressured. Yes, there was a lot willingly going along from the CEO.

However, walmart will eventually capitulate. If for nothing else, because demographics are against them. Millennials are going to overtake the boomers as the largest generation. And they are the product of a failed education system that taught them to hate their country, traditions, history and culture.

Expect more and more corps to cater to their whims.

Even Dick's with their much lower sales, was shattered financially when they made their decision. Yeah it may have took a year or 2, but they are closing stores due to the fall out.

I think it’s more of an issue of the top management’s political views than the number of customer signatures they receive on a petition.

IIRC, they are fairly ardent supporters of firearms and the 2A.

From the monetary side... I am sure they also heavily benefited from Dicks getting out of that business.

It's a change.org petition, likely combined with an underlying employee petition that is linked to it. A large portion of the signatures are likely not even located in the US.

I have gotten ammo from the Walmart across the river. I would love to support my local gun shop but they sell American Fed. Eagle 38 Special for $28 a box, when I can get it online for $14 all day long, and forget about 40 S&W or 45 ACP. And maybe I'm just a tad bit the pessimist, but I would venture to guess that many shops would be happy if Our Dear Leader restricted online sales. I understand supply and demand, the buying power of larger entities, and support capitalism, but come on. I do refuse to set foot in Dick's place though.

Right.  Walmarts in NJ do not sell ammo.  I do not know why that is other than they probably don’t want to deal with the NJ paperwork and staff requirements to do it here.  But from time to time, they mistakenly ship a pallet of ammo to NJ stores.  Happened in the Kearny NJ store from time to time.

Since ammo could not be picked up from a store by a WMT truck, transferred to another store or sold, or given away, the mgr would call the local police dept and they would come and get it.

Walmart operates on the premise that you can go there and find everything you need.  They believe if customers know they can’t get a certain product and have to go somewhere else to get that product, they may get other products and WMT will lose sales.  So unless there is some price to pay for carrying a given product, they will continue to sell it.  Its more than just about how much money a single product brings in.

And they bent at the knee

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/03/walmart-plans-to-dramatically-step-back-from-gun-sales-after-horrific-shootings.html

Highlights:

Quote

Walmart is discontinuing sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber, discontinuing sales of handgun ammunition and discontinuing handgun sales entirely in Alaska.

Quote

“We’ve also been listening to a lot of people inside and outside our company as we think about the role we can play in helping to make the country safer

They are bending at the knee for people that absolutely despises all about WM;  their costumers, their business model,  their business practices. WM is, essentially, asking asked to be eaten last.

Quote

McMillon said he will also be sending letters to the White House and other Congressional leaders, asking for action on “common sense measures.” He’s calling on the government to “strengthen background checks and to remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger.

Businesses prime directive is no longer to provide goods and services at a fair price that costumers want and need while increasing corporate value and shareholder equity. Rather is to be a motor effecting societal change. Proceed accordingly.

Walmart turns into Dick's.... Really, they turned into pu**ys...

Apparently not, they rather roll over to being P.C.

....." The biggest retailer in the world also is asking customers at Walmart and Sam’s Club to no longer openly carry firearms in stores, in states where “open carry” is allowed, unless they are authorized law enforcement officers. "

Walmart said Tuesday it will discontinue all sales of handgun ammunition and sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition that can be used with military-style weapons, following two “horrific” shootings at Walmart stores this summer."

Keep this in mind dudes!!! One of the biggest retailers of ammo and firearms are rolling over for the Liberals, following TWO shootings... You know where you SHOULDN'T shop anymore!

If they are so concerned about people dying, they should stop allowing people to drive to the stores, since over 110 people die A DAY in auto accidents, and they should stop selling car parts and accessories.

Hopefully that will be such a backlash for Walmart in doing this.  Fudds be damned.

That idiot 20-year-old "2nd Amendment Supporter" that showed up in camo to test his gun rights at a particularly bad time didn't help any.   Stupid is as stupid does.

However, it is really the media pressure that is affecting Walmart.  Supporters of freedom and the Constitution SHOULD contact Walmart customer service and let them know (politely) how they feel.  I wouldn't buy ANY firearms, hunting rifles, or otherwise from Walmart if this goes into effect.  "America's Store" with many rural, freedom-loving American customers should be coming out STRONG against the face of Statism and tyranny.

Keep this in mind, remember the OP, 129,000 people signed the petition. There are 320 MILLION people in the country. 129K isn't even a rounding error, at 0.0004 of the population. This is who Walmart rolled over for.

Now look at this list (I snagged it elsewhere). If Walmart was REALLY concerned about deaths, why are the still selling:

When are they going to stop selling mobile phones since people that use them are more likely to be involved in a fatal automobile accident while texting?

When will they stop selling items with sugar or corn syrup since those items are directly related to deaths that occur with diabetes?

What about tobacco or vaping products? These are known to cause cancer and other respiratory illnesses or death.

How about alcohol sales? Gonna stop those as well due to the number of people killed by DUI?
