At a retail price of $1, 079 per pistol, that would be a cost of 3.3 Million dollars. Each trooper could get a new one every single month and still have 30 some million left for ammo! I think it's supposed to be 7 million and someone screwed up the story and said 70 million. I may be wrong, but I thought NJSP dumped the SIG 229 .40 and went to Glock G19 around 2016 or '17. BobA 1,235 Posted September 11, 2019 I wonder, @Smokin .50, if open letters from CNJFO and ANJRPC to the manufacturers pointing out how he’s targeting our FFLs, their life blood to their patrons, and reminding them of S&W some years ago if they could be convinced to call his bluff. It's an interesting thought @BobA. Ronnie Barrett won't sell his Barrett rifles to Kali or any dept. in Kali. I met Ronnie Barrett last Sept. at the NRA Board of Directors meeting in Arlington, VA. I'll bring it up the flag pole & see who is fired-up enough to give it a good shot ~R 1

DirtyDigz 1,811 Posted September 13, 2019 NSSF Responded: NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, released the following statement on New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order that threatens to end business relationships with firearms manufacturers and retailers if they don’t adopt vaguely defined business practices. “Governor Murphy’s executive order is a broad and open invitation to discriminate against firearms manufacturers and retailers. It will do nothing to curb illegal gun sales and will only serve to punish licensed and law-abiding small businesses engaged in the lawful commerce of constitutionally protected products. Furthermore, trying to regulate by coercion interstate commerce outside of New Jersey is clearly an overreach of the governor’s power and authority. If Governor Murphy wants to work on real solutions to make our communities safer, he needs to work with the firearms industry. We conceived the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and our industry conducts an average of 38,000 new NICS checks daily. We know what works and what doesn’t, and we are continually working to improve and strengthen background checks. The firearms industry also works with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to prevent straw purchases of firearms through our Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM campaign. No one wants to stop the criminal misuse of firearms and ensure they stay out of the hands of criminals more than our industry. We also partner with ATF in Operation Secure Store to provide retailers with education and resources to secure their inventory from theft. Governor Murphy wrongly sees member of the firearms retailers as contributing to the criminal misuse of firearms when in reality they are on the front lines of helping to prevent firearms from rolling into the wrong hands. They are part of the solution. Our industry stands ready and willing to work with Governor Murphy on real solutions, but our industry does not deserve to be vilified, threatened and discriminated against through meaningless regulations being proposed strictly for political motivations.”

father-of-three 243 Posted September 14, 2019 It is frustrating that Murphy does not appear to know how existing laws work, but acts like he does, and is believed as though he does. This is also another example of where "mental illness" goes undefined, likely to the detriment of those who may not be prohibited persons, even by New Jersey's stricter standards. It is my hope that all the gun manufacturers boycott and nullify the State of New Jersey's accounts.

The traded in firearms are sold in the secondary market and one way or another the State benefits from this arrangement. Not sure if these traded in firearms and sold exclusively in NJ or in other States as well, some of which probably have the loose gun laws that Murphy complains about but I suspect many are sold out of State. So the State of N.J. is really in the gun business, the very business Murphy complains about. Also in the HI-Cap mag business because these used law enforcement pistols are 15 rounders and those guns are probably turned in with those Hi-Caps and make there way to States he complains about that permit Hi-Cap mags I have a friend who is a State Trooper and he told me a few years ago when the NJSP got new handguns that the state paid to have the old Sig 229's cut in half down the middle and then offered to sell the one half back to the Troopers who carried them. Apparently no one took the state up on the offer so they paid to have the remains of these pistols destroyed. When it comes to their antigun ideology, no amount of your tax dollars is too much to spend.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted September 18, 2019 Earlier today on 1210-WPHT, Dom's producer got info back from the OPRA request he submitted, questioning that $70m number. It turns out, that number was extremely overinflated with other expenditures, not even relating to firearms and/or ammo.
