28% of Democrats Say It Should Be Illegal to Join the NRA

Recommended Posts

There are some interesting stats in this poll. First, it tells you who your "friends" are. Plus, since only about 5% of gun owners are NRA members, does it mean that the Dems are OK with the other 95% of gun owners?

Second, look at the numbers for Republicans in this poll. Is that disturbing?

...." The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that nearly one-out-of-three Likely Democratic Voters (32%) favor declaring the gun rights group a terrorist organization in the community where they live. Fourteen percent (14%) of Republicans and 20% of voters not affiliated with either major party agree.

Twenty-eight percent (28%) of Democrats say Americans should be prohibited by law from belonging to pro-gun rights organizations like the NRA, a view shared by 15% of Republicans and 10% of uanffiliateds.

Among all likely voters, 23% favor declaring the NRA a terrorist organization in their home community, while 18% think it should be against the law to belong to pro-gun rights groups like the NRA."

You can toss the fringe 10% of the respondents in the trash.  Ask any ridiculous question on any poll, despite the “quality” of the sample, and you will get about 8% to 10% of the respondents to approve of, or agree with, the ludicrous condition being asked about.

So...72% of Democrats think it's fine? Meaning most Democrats are fine with the NRA?

Ummm… not sure, but I tend to doubt that! You cannot assume everyone else who was surveyed must have the exact opposite view of those 28%. Most surveys provide one or more middle ground answers - like "not sure" or "undecided" - and a decent percentage of people tend to pick those neutral answers.

It's generally a bad policy - with surveys as with life - to assume facts not in evidence. ;)

The actual questions:

1* Do you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable impression of the National Rifle Association, also known as the NRA?

2* Are NRA members more likely or less likely to commit a crime with a gun? Or is the level of gun crime by NRA members about the same as in the population at large?

3* Following several recent mass shootings, officials in San Francisco have declared the NRA a domestic terrorist organization, although the decision has no specific impact on the NRA or its members. Do you favor or oppose declaring the NRA a terrorist organization in the community where you live?

4* Should Americans be prohibited by law from belonging to pro-gun rights organizations like the NRA?

Why would a sizeable percentage  of Socialist Democrats care about someone's rights to freely associated with other lawful individuals for a lawful and common interest, which happens to support the Constitution and individual rights and freedoms?  It goes against just about everything they stand for.
