cheap does not have to equal bad.. I think its all about what you are looking to get out of it..

It's cheap because it's a polymer upper and lower.

The question you need to ask is "why are most 'modern rifles' so expensive?"

They are mostly machined aluminum castings and injection-molded plastic...very cheap material.

Some are low cost but not "cheap" in the technical term (crap parts). There was a deal recently at Palmetto for a complete AR kit (Freedom upper and PSA lower) for a little over $300. That ends up being a basic decent starter AR for someone just getting into the sport.

You mean they are not hand-crafted and fitted by craftsman and made to last?

It's only illegal if you are a law-abiding US citizen.   Criminals and undocumented dreamers are exempt.
