david8613 69 Posted October 16, 2019 What are the rules to receive a rifle from over seas? Is it as simple as sending to an ffl?
Shane45 807 Posted October 16, 2019 I'm not 100% sure but I believe there is an import process thats rather tangled and lengthy.
BMWR12 35 Posted October 16, 2019 It has to be sent to a licensed importer. Probably not worth the hassle unless it is something extremely rare or valuable.
capt14k 2,052 Posted October 17, 2019 If it is a sporting arm it can be sent to a FFL01 and they do not need to import mark it. You still need an import permit. Military arms must be C&R and original configuration and must be shipped to FFL08. Permits are filed here. Once approved depending on the country being sent from permits then get filed there or simply sent to FFL08. Cost for a single firearm is going to be close to $1k. I have imported multiple times from a few countries. I try to get costs down to around $250 a firearm. It is nearly impossible unless you have a friend in the other country who is willing to help you and you trust them. All firearms imported by a FFL08 must be import marked. Pre 1898 non NFA are not considered firearms and no permits are needed on a federal level. No you can't import cheap SVT or SKS there are other laws, treaties, and EOs that impact what can be imported and what can not.
