Lost fid , marked duplicate now

Recommended Posts

So unsure where to post or really if I even need to ask but I’ve recently lost and had to  go through the wonderful fid process again. My new card is marked duplicate as is understandable but is there and negative associations with a duplicate card? Or is it merely for there record keeping against stolen fids

I am sure you will be fine!  They would not issue duplicate FID cards if they did not work!

Did you know...

Having A NJFID is the ONLY ID you need at NJ DMV?

Not quite, it isn’t sufficient to get a drivers license. It counts as 3 points towards the 6 points total you need, but it is not considered a ‘primary’ ID.   You still need an ID from the primary list contributing to your point total.

You must have gotten a Plick, because I just renewed my DL showed old license and FID. Period.

We only get one original FPID, the very first one.  Any changes (Name-Address), or reasons for replacement (mutilated, lost) results in a duplicate.  All subsequent cards are duplicates.

Dunno why they call it a duplicate, must be for accounting/tracking reasons.  We go through the entire background check process, fill out all the same forms, and for old timers like me, go get fingerprints scanned instead of inked at the station.  It's the exact same process for getting an original.

EDIT: btw, it's worth noting, a duplicate is not the same as a copy.  A duplicate is the same as the original in every way, including it's authority.  A copy is an impression, a fake, and carries no credence.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.

Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
