jm1827 284 Posted November 13, 2019 Is anyone familiar with the area in Jersey City near St. Peter's Prep? My son has a game there this weekend and I am looking for a place to grab a bite to eat beforehand.
fishnut 2,358 Posted November 13, 2019 What type of food you looking for? My brother lives in JC and is somewhat of a "foodie"

My brother lives in JC and is somewhat of a "foodie" Anything really, just a decent meal and a cold beer before a football game. I do like a good IPA though, and am good with anything from a good burger, pizza, steak. I am not picky at all!
fishnut 2,358 Posted November 13, 2019 Zeppelin hall beer garden, Iron monkey(pricey but a sweet beer list) Hudson hall (pricey but great food and beer) and porta pizza are his recommendations. All are within walking distance. Hes 5 blocks away from the school so he knows the area well lol
Vicious 138 Posted November 13, 2019 No offense to @fishnut (respectable list that it is), but go experience real Jersey City and skip the yuppie spots. Park Tavern on West Side Ave., and Communipaw. Best burger in Jersey. Speaking as a life long resident (recently moved). You will pass it on the way in to St. Peters Prep.
fishnut 2,358 Posted November 13, 2019 No offence taken, not my recommendations they are my brothers who lives in JC. Personally I've only been to JC once to my brothers place for dinner.

Lol I would love to move back, but the city doesn’t feel the same. Way too congested (new construction squeezing more people in), and the traffic has gotten insane. jm1827 284 Posted November 13, 2019 Thanks everyone! Just curious, how safe is it walking around that area in the early evening, any concerns?
Vicious 138 Posted November 13, 2019 Around Prep, the area is a little better. Both areas have decent foot traffic when you would be there, so you would probably be fine. It is still JC, so keep your head on a swivel. There is no invisible fence that keeps crime out of “nice areas.” On that note, if you are not going to drive, Uber or take a bus, Park would be a bit of a walk to Prep. Ahhh ... then you want the KFC on the corner of Communipaw and MLK. AFAIR real bullet proof glass and lazy-susan style carousels to pass the food to the customers.

My wife goes to school at night in HCCC. The area is fine during the day. At night? Prepare to be harrassed for money. Bring pepper spray and a knife. jm1827 284 Posted December 7, 2019 A belated but quick update. They actually played the game at a field a couple miles away from St Peter's and we ended up at a local dive bar called O'Leary's Publik House. It was a local place, with some very good IPAs on tap and the bar food was excellent. Ended up having 25 or so of us there for the pregame.
Vicious 138 Posted December 7, 2019 Nice, they are pretty good. Went there a few times (worked in the area) and enjoyed it. The bartender was always a JCFD guy and he wouldn't kick us out no matter how late we stay past closing. Lol
Underdog 1,593 Posted December 7, 2019 The Korai Kitchen on Summit Ave has a nice Bangladesh Buffet and is pretty good, interesting, and quick... You must like Curry. Spice Spirit on Bergen Street is pretty good, too.
