Do any of you penny-pinchers have any experience with buying used cars from the owner?
When buying from a private party in NJ, how does that work? When can you drive the car home? Does it have to be registered first? When do you get temporary or permanent tags for the car?
My son is moving away, and he wants to get rid of his car. Rather old and somewhat beaten SUV, but runs well. I called a few "cash for cars" businesses, and the offer is always the same $300. I remember there were adds like "$2K for any car you can drive to our place" - can't find anything like that anymore.
Maybe my expectations are unreasonable, but $300 doesn't look fair. I'd like to keep it, but can't afford extra insurance at this time.
Any advice?

Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act
H. R. 5013 - Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006 (known as the Vitter Amendment)
H. R. 5441
And it's sad because there's a lot to like, especially South NJ, the North West, and the Beaches. Like Washington State, the Illiberals have managed to take something good and totally destroy it.
I reached out to Ridgewood Rifle Club after I saw an AD in NJARPC magazine. Their email is "[email protected]." They're primarily targeting JR/youth shooters and their parents as they only shoot .22 LR or Air Rifles on paper targets. Here's some more details:
