ytruhg 1 Posted January 21, 2020 A private seller offered to sell me a gun never used (made NJ legal) at $50 off of retail new. (of course we would go through a FFL) Is it worth it? Or is it better to go with a new one for $50 more? Thank you
GRIZ 3,369 Posted January 21, 2020 That $50 saving would be eaten up by transfer fees. Although having to pay sales tax on a new gun would add to it. The manufacturer's warranty comes into play too. Ruger, Taurus, and others will fix the gun free no matter how many have owned it. Some manufacturers only for the original owner.

Thank you Depending on the gun, dealers on this forum may also be able to meet or beat $50 off of retail new. You can use the price request feature to ask. Otherwise, I wouldn't rule out the private transaction, especially if the new warranty would apply. Was the warranty card with the gun, or has it already been sent in by the original buyer? If the latter, how much time is left, and is it a transferrable warranty?
ytruhg 1 Posted January 21, 2020 Thank you. This is a M&P 15-22 that is jersey legal. He is offering it for $330 plus $50 NCIS check and transfer fee.
The_Matrix 105 Posted January 22, 2020 just get the new one. For $50, not worth the time or hassle. Maybe if $200 difference.
