Athlon Argos is also a good value scope - https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Illuminated-Reticle/dp/B0157N4640/ref=sr_1_14?crid=CQRQ3AGFCEDX&dchild=1&keywords=vortex+first+focal+plane&qid=1579820523&sprefix=vortex+fi%2Caps%2C262&sr=8-14

I've owned a few Nikon Buckmasters and Prostaff scopes for years, and those have served me well enough.  Pretty sure I read Nikon discontinued their scope lines, so you might find some deals on those.  However, the crosshairs on most of their scopes are designed more for hunting than for precision work, it seems.

I have been transitioning away from those scopes to SWFA SS scopes - currently have two of their 16x42 mil quad scopes, and I love em and plan to add more.  Friend liked mine enough he also bought one.   I thought I might miss the ability to have a wide FoV, but I realized that I have not used the wide end of my zoom range a single time on all but one scope while shooting paper (which is all I do).  I'm not sure how the SWFA will do for 1000yd, since I've only shot to 200 with mine, but they are seriously nice scopes for the money.  I feel they will serve me well until I have reason to go to the 4 figure scopes.  If you wait for a sale, you can likely get one under $270, and normal price is about $300.  It uses a 30mm tube, so make sure you get the right rings for it, and I suggest adding the hood and caps.

My only real complaint with my 16x scopes is that the eye relief can be rather unforgiving, so proper, consistent cheek weld is critical. The 16x and 20x are supposedly much less forgiving than the other SWFA SS scopes.

    • really sorry I missed this.. as stated the rod is not needed..  @TRPC_SHOOTER
    • Well I got a denial letter for FID and handgun permit. 2 reasons were listed, and seem reasonable on the surface, but the issues aren't what they seem. Reason 1 was an aggravated assault charge from 2007 that was dismissed. But I didn't assault anyone. I make the mistake of driving after consuming alcohol, I fell asleep, hit a tree, and my passenger was injured from the accident, hence the charge, along with a DWI (I had a BAC of .12). However they fully recovered from their injuries, and I entered and completed PTI, and the aggravated charge was dismissed. My passenger didn't even want me charged. In municipal court, the prosecutor wanted a year license suspension, but the judge gave me a 7 months suspension because I wasn't blasted out of my socks. I went through the mandatory drug counseling like everyone else, and it was determined I did not need additional counseling, as i did not fit the criteria for an alcoholic. Reason 2, in late 2018 I filed for divorce from my bipolar wife, she was a very angry and mentally unstable person. After I filed, she demanded a payout that I just couldn't afford or she would drag out the divorce, so I hired a lawyer. Well my wife went to the local PD, this is in late 2019, a year after we'd stopped living together, and filed a police report. She claimed I was a suicidal wife abusing alcoholic, and claimed that there have been many instances of unreported domestic violence in the past. She did this so she could have a police report as "proof" of being a victim in a terrible marriage, to garner sympathy from the family court judge, but it didn't help her in the divorce, and in the end, decided to avoid trial, and walk with nothing. However this report of hers is one of the reasons they denied me, despite her allegations being untrue. I've never assaulted my ex-wife, was never arrested, or even questioned, not in person, not even a phone call. Is it worth it to appeal the denial? I really feel defeated here. I also don't have thousands for a lawyer, and with the pandemic closing the courts, how could an appeal even proceed?
    • I'll take it, PM sent
    • This is my vision... An enjoyable and relaxing hobby..   I dont have a real NEED to reload.. i dont shoot all that much.. i would probably shoot more if i did reload myself.. Im a handy, self reliant person. I do all my own auto repairs, home repairs, etc.. hell, i even hunt, fish, and plant a garden. though i dont eat vegatables..   the ABILITY to reload just seems important to me. It goes along with my self reliant personality.. I want to teach my son too. hell, one day it will all be his anyway. Hopefully this coronavirus shit doesnt take me out cause he cant inherit all these guns at 16..
