Bill to ban Assault Weapons in Virginia advances in House

Recommended Posts

Remember that 2A Rally a few weeks ago in Richmond? Apparently the politicians don't. BOHICA

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- A bill banning assault weapons has passed through the House of Delegates Committee on Public Safety with a vote of 12-9.

HB 961 would ban the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms, including popular AR-15 style rifles. But the bill would not require current owners of assault weapons to turn them in or register them with state police, as some earlier proposals required.

The bill also prohibits a dealer from selling, renting, trading, or transferring from his inventory an assault firearm to any person.

Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran said a ban on selling assault weapons and high-capacity magazines is needed to help prevent mass shootings, or at least limit the damage mass shooters can inflict.

“Assault weapons are not protected by the Second Amendment because they are weapons of war,” Moran said.

“This bill does not make Virginians safer, what this bill does is make Virginians, law-abiding Virginians, felons overnight,” said D.J. Spiker, a lobbyist for the NRA.

As we warned a few days ago, HB 961, which bans "assault weapons", larger-capacity magazines, suppressors, and more, is up for a committee vote on Friday, February 7, at 8 am.

WE NEED TO STOP HB 961 AND THE OTHER FOUR GUN-CONTROL BILLS FROM MOVING FORWARD:

HB 264, removes getting CHP training from an NRA certified instructor!  This will make finding training to get a CHP almost impossible and it will be expensive!  It also bans online classes.

HB 600, requires those running family day-homes to lock up their guns, unloaded, with the ammunition locked up separately.  Not even a CHP holder can have a loaded, concealed handgun on their person!  Another "gun-free zone" that endangers everyone in that home.

HB 1288, takes away gun rights for various MISDEMEANORS.

HB 1499, creates the Virginia Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention Fund.  Apparently the only violence that matters is violence that deals with guns.

ACTION ITEM:  This is in a big meeting room - let's fill it up!

Apparently, the dictatorship in VA is going well. Have a voice, get thrown out, peons....

....."Gun supporters packed a state House committee room and shouted in protest when legislation to ban the sale of assault weapons like AR-15 style-rifles, prohibit the possession of silencers as well as magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, passed out of committee. The uproar caused Capitol Police to clear the committee room of almost every spectator following the vote, The Associated Press reported.

Gun owners are descending on local government offices to demand they establish sanctuaries for gun rights across the state. More than 100 counties, cities and towns have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries and vowed to oppose any new "unconstitutional restrictions" on guns.

Following his reelection, Gov. Ralph Northam vowed to push through new gun control measures, saying it was a top priority for Virginia Democrats. In doing so, he angered gun rights' advocates who believe he is trying to take away their rights. President Trump also jumped into the debate, warning via tweet that Virginia Democrats were threatening Americans' right to bear arms.

Be nice if the supreme court started ruling on some of these 2A cases sitting in front of them before people start getting hurt.

I'm thinking we'll see this first, before they get around to it:

I also think Murphy is going to be pissed, that VA is moving faster than he is with all the gun bans. Watch for Murphy to try and speed up his process.

Was trying to come up with a count of how many VA gun owners would comply with the mag ban....

I’m thinking.....15... maybe 20?

Probably not comply if it gets signed into law, but problem becomes, those mags will never be able to be seen/used in public again, so what do they get by not complying? Paperweights to be hidden in their house?

These unconstitutional laws needed to be stopped BEFORE they're signed into law!

The hits keep coming...

Democrats on Virginia’s House of Delegates Public Safety Committee passed legislation Friday making it a felony to possess a suppressor in the state after July 1, 2020.

The felony applies to all suppressors, including those legally purchased through the federal background check and registered with the ATF.

The Washington Examiner reports the ban is expected to pass in the full Democrat-controlled House of Delegates.

If we go by how many complied here, then all of them.

Update, it passed in the House, now on to the Senate:

...."Virginia's House of Delegates passed legislation Tuesday afternoon that would ban the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms, including the popular AR-15-style rifles.

The vote on H.B. 961 was close, with a tally of 51-48, The Wall Street Journal reported. State Democrats currently control 55 seats in the chamber.

Despite having the support of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D), the passage of the bill in the state's Senate isn't guaranteed, as Democrats have only a two-seat majority in the 40-seat Senate."

Place your bets, will the Senate pass it, and send it on Northam to sign it into law???
