I have a membership at GSSC in Lakewood.  The guys there are awesome and I love shooting there.  But there are limits to an indoor range.  I'm planning on joining Central Jersey Rifle & Pistol Club this month.

What's been your experience with the club and is it worth the $$?

Its a great club.  Yes, it does cost a bit more than a lot of us would prefer, but I think its worth it.  The facilities are great and there are a lot of activities. Both formal and informal. As far as participating in things like work parties...you can be involved as much or as little as you like. There are $ credits for work you do.  Requires a minimum amount of participation for credit and is applied to your annual dues.

I assume you know about the facility but if you’re not familiar, you should check it out in person.  Many weekend shoots are open to the public.

As far as rules and regs... safety is paramount and is the basis for the majority of the club rules. The rest are primarily related to treatment of the facility.  But the rules makes sense, help keep everyone there safe and keep the club facilities in good condition.

If CJ is close enough for you I think you’ll be happy with the club.

I like shooting outdoors in a safe and legal environment. Plus, everybody is friendly and helpful. We are all on the same page. I shoot trap 12 months out of the year, day and night until 9pm. No one offers that. The outdorr pistol range has lights for shooting until 9PM also. The club dumps their excess funds into maintenance and big projects. They have never asked for a dime besides dues. Other clubs will assess members for big projects. I have shot around a lot of clubs and CJ is the most well maintained.

The ONLY thing I miss about NJ is CJRPC. I lived in Jackson, and it was absalootley fan-fucking-tastic to be able to go there on a weekday  and shoot wherever I wanted. No RSOs, very few idiots (some slobs). Many times I would have the GP or HP ranges to myself for hours at a time. Not to mention the pits for handgun and rimfire. 24/7 indoor was great as well. People who gripe about the cost or think the board members are enriching themselves somehow are a bunch of douchebags. Pay up for a nice place or go to R14, whenever it's open and deal with the range Nazis and giant crowds.

I'm sold!  I'll be at the new member meeting this month.

      My nearby ranges, Cherry Ridge and Reloaderz are still closed.  Reloaderz's shop is partially open but the range is not.
      I can see it will be weeks or months before we're able to shoot.  It will be a painful drought.

      Knife laws and bayonet laws

      As a gun owner in New Jersey I understand the mess of laws in the state. Now that I own milsurps I'm curious is it lawful to own bayonets not carry just own (of course). If it's legal what about taking them to the range for a photoshoot. Lastly I have a question about carrying a knife mostly as a tool of course I have a Swiss knife and I used that is my tool normally and for my understanding it's under the lawful purpose clause or whatever. I was thinking about getting 3.25 in pocket knife foldable blade not assisted in any way I assume lawful I don't know if anyone's had trouble with carrying knives New Jersey other than the few court cases that's still left the wall kind of vague like New Jersey likes it. I'll probably keep carrying the Swiss pocket knife but I find that the blade may be weak for some things but I do like it's simplistic size mostly everything I would probably need for my basic lifestyle. I'm sure carrying a knife has been debated a lot in this forum before but I haven't seen anything so if you have any links or just want to give me the simple rundown I'm fine with that.

      With so many registered shoots going on, I thought I'd try a new range in South Jersey and visited Quinton in Salem County and have since gone back.
      It's a nice facility overall, offering Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays and 5-Stand. I've been there twice for Trap and Sporting Clays and both were busy, but not crowded. On the Trap field, the shooters were pretty laid back and friendly and the woman, Lisa, who was running the show was super helpful. I went with my son and both being new to Trap, I appreciated the advice from the guys just hanging out. It's the kind of place that gets a lot of regulars and they sit around and chew the fat and, when there's enough for a squad, or when Lisa is trying to fill a squad, someone will get up and join. You know there are regulars when a shooter goes down into the trap house to check on the trap or set it up for doubles. It was a pretty good mix of people, yeah, plenty of middle-aged and elderly men, but a few women and juniors as well.  It was a very comfortable place to shoot and I recommend it, though it is a haul (for me) being so far south. 
      They only have one Sporting Clay course as far as I know and it's nicely laid out in the woods along winding, stoned paths. We found the presentations fairly hard - definitely more difficult than the Woods course at Cedar Creek, for example. Lots of longer distance targets. 
      I don't shoot skeet but they have a couple of skeet ranges that look to be in good condition. I've not seen anyone on the skeet range either time I've been there.
      Prices per round weren't bad - $30 for 100 Sporting Clays and $5 for a round of Trap (non-member prices). Clubhouses are nice. No ammo for sale.
