Twism86 5 Posted February 14, 2020 Hi Everyone, New member but already made my first post in the NJ Laws forum trying to clear up for transport questions. New handgun owner but not new to shooting. Grew up shooting with my family and in Boy Scouts. Currently have a Ruger Sec9, Norinco SKS and a Mossberg 500. I probably enjoy trap shooting the most, even though I have a cheap shotgun... Actually all my firearms are kind of cheap, buy hey, they work! I dont have a "home" range but im pretty much equidistant from both RTSP ranges and TTC. I wouldnt call shooting a big hobby of mine right now as I dont get out as much as I would like but thats only because I find shooting pieces of paper in a concrete building rather boring and good trap ranges are hard to find. Has anyone been to the Chester Game Association trap range? Its only 35 mins from me so once it warms up im hoping to give that a shot. Im envious of people who live outside of NJ or have enough property to be able to shoot outside at more "fun" targets. Im a big fisherman and love trout and bass fishing. Trout in NJ and bass at my place in the Poconos. I actually run a small forum myself for trout fishing in NJ. Tom

10X 3,296 Posted February 14, 2020 I've not been to Chester Game Association, but most clubs with a trap house are just wonderful. I'm a member at the North Jersey Clay Target Club NJCTC in Fairfield. It's a great facility, and welcoming of newcomers. No membership required, but members get a significant break on the target cost, and can buy discounted ammo a few times a year when they have a bulk shipment come in. The club doesn't sell ammo, or rent shotguns, however.

You sound like an ideal candidate for some action pistol games - IDPA and/or USPSA. You may want to gain a little more experience first, but these solve the boredom problem. Your Ruger would suffice, probably just need a few more mags and mag pouches and a suitable holster. Welcome to the forum. Adios, Pizza Bob
Mrs. Peel 7,157 Posted February 14, 2020 Welcome, Tom! A little advice - don't eat Zeke's meatloaf, do eat (the properly named) Taylor Ham - and have fun on here! 1

I mean seriously, who puts pineapple in a meatloaf?! Somethings wrong with that boys head. 22 hours ago, 10X said: I'm cooking two pork loins on the smoker, and serving with corn bread baked in great--grandma's cast iron skillet. FYI, that was a recipe I found FOR you on the interwebs...because you said you wanted canned cornbread. Heathen. Proper cornbread is made in a well seasoned cast iron skillet. That’s how civilized people do things.... OP, welcome to the forum, and all of its ‘charms’.
Displaced Texan 11,731 Posted February 15, 2020 And on that note, I’ll me making chili and cornbread today.....both of them the RIGHT way!! No beans in chili. Cornbread baked in cast iron skillets

I've been following your smoker posts long enough to know we're already friends. I ended up following a Myron Mixon recipe for smoked pork tenderloin, that involves boring a hole through each tenderloin and stuffing in a kielbasa before applying the rub and smoking (I used a mix of hickory and cherry). I also made a batch of one of his vinegar-based sauces, from scratch, as well. We'd planned on 5 for dinner, but when word got out that I was smoking yesterday, we had three more drop-ins. I think the family has set up a phone tree to send out alerts whenever I fire up the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker. Mmmmmm. Finished product looked pretty much like this: Sausage stuffed pork tenderloin

I’m going to have to pass the bbq torch to you for the shotgun shoot/bbq’s...We are moving back to Tx in a little less than 2 years. You’re my replacement!!! I made chili and cornbread yesterday! The RIGHT way! Looks amazing! I've yet to make it to a shotgun shoot/bbq, but if the timing lines up with my schedule, and the venue isn't too far south, I'll do my best. Mostly I need to try and make it to one while you're still cooking locally. Together we'll banish the scourge of crockpot Boil-B-Que forever! Just a heads-up on the stuffed tenderloin. It's difficult to put together. Start with the knife slit through the tenderloin, enlarge as best you can, then use a turkey baster to enlarge further, then lube your kielbasa with a LOT of vegetable oil, and cram it in. There, that ought to get a facepalm emoji from Mrs.Peel.
Displaced Texan 11,731 Posted February 16, 2020 Shoot/bbq is usually at Stafford Forge WMA. I usually bring a brisket or two, maybe ribs, or chili. @Zeke threatens to bring his crock pot ‘bbq ribs’, but hasn’t had the testicular fortitude to do a head to head with my ribs. He does bring that pineapple meatloaf abomination though....lol Uh...the assembly process for that stuffed tenderloin sounds like it belongs in a porn movie, not a recipe!!

Displaced Texan 11,731 Posted February 16, 2020 Probably be much easier to butterfly the tenderloin and pound it thin...then roll it up with the sausage and tie it.

I wonder if you could bore a hole in the tenderloin, then use a sausage stuffer to ‘inject’ the sausage meat into the cavity? After saying this outloud, it REALLY sounds like a porn movie!

Old Glock guy 1,127 Posted February 16, 2020 Welcome to our clubhouse! There's a lot you can learn on this forum about all aspects of shooting, including how to navigate the tangled mass of NJ gun laws so you can stay out of jail. There is a huge amount of useful archived info that you can easily find using the search function. Some of you could take a thread off track even if it was on rails!
