Getting My FFL - My Journey

Recommended Posts

I heard from my IOI today.  It looked like things were gonna sail along from here.  However, the license that NJ sent me does not match what I am applying for thru ATF.  So, my IOI is working on it from his end to see what he can do and I have an email in to the NJSP Trooper that is in charge of NJ Licenses.

This kinda sucks on a lot of levels.  It'll all work out, but it sucks.

So, I want to thank everyone on here that has followed along. I appreciate all the help and support.
I am going to abandon my trying to obtain my FFL for now. A combination of circumstances has led me to believe that this is the correct course of action. I’m not giving up. I am going to get out of the space I’m in, re-group, and find a different and more suitable space.

JHTDC! I'm sorry to hear that. But going for an FFL in this state in this market has to be the most adverse set of circumstances in the history of firearms retailing.

The only good new is, had you succeeded, what would have been your prospects for product supply in the next 12 months. I think you're making the right move. Cut your losses while you can.

Thanks. I appreciate it. As stated, I’m going to regroup and look for space that is more appropriate.

I really give you credit for starting that journey. It's a journey I seriously thought about, but didn't have the nerve or capital to follow through. I hope you find your goal. If not in this state, in another.

Can you FFL from home?

Sorry to read/see this, but I’m sure you have weighed all the outcomes before making this decision.  Wishing you the best as you regroup.

I just want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for that wonderful avatar.  Makes my day so much more pleasant.

I called the town.  No retail business from home.  Period.

What if you go rent a small, token store front for appearance, to keep them happy, but run all the inventory and processing out of your house?

All A&D needs to be run out of the FFL which is tied to the space. Think of it as a liquor license. Same concept.

I'm just finding this thread. We're almost neighbors... so hope you keep it going!

Thanks.

The dream didn't die.  I am taking a breath and looking for space.  Paying rent for 7 months took a bit of a financial toll so it may be a longer breath than I'd like.  However, I really am looking.  I called a realtor that (I'll never understand it) didn't call me back.  Needed to light a fire under him.  Maybe something will pan out.  I also have someone that may be willing to throw a few shekels my way for a part of it.  I'm just not sure we're on enough of the same page.

So, we'll see.

    • I ordered a "Primary Arms SLx Compact 1x20 Prism Scope w/ACSS Cyclops" it's meant for ar/ak's and is excellent for mild or severe astigmatism. They also have a 3x version as well, but i just wanted a 1x for mostly cqb situations. All of these can be used with magnifiers and most have night vision options, Other options for people with eye issues are: Cyclops (Primary Arms) Vortex Spitfire 1x Swamp Fox Blade prism scope 1x Sig Bravo 5 (a little more pricey than the others)
    • Keep the pistol grip.  You don't need anything at the muzzle.
    • My apologies for the long post.  Hi everyone, it’s great to join you in this community as I venture into building my first AR here in Jersey. I’ve had many questions satisfied along the way, but one keeps me running in circles. Hopefully some of you can shed some light on this topic... For reference once again, here’s the law on what constitutes an assault rifle in NJ: A semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: (1) A folding or telescoping stock; (2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (3) A bayonet mount; (4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and (5) A grenade launcher; Here’s my situation: Before our rifles with detachable magazines can be considered illegal, we are allowed 1 of these 5 features. All these features are listed together and are of equal legality as long as ONLY ONE is present on the rifle. With this in mind, I am working on an 18” precision build which I intend to use primarily at both, outdoor Pennsylvania ranges and indoor NJ ranges. I’d need to switch from a comp/brake to a linear comp when shooting indoors in NJ, so permanently affixing a muzzle device on my barrel wouldn’t be the best option. My buddy in PA would have a pistol grip I can install out there, this way I am not in possession of, nor travel with parts to create an assault weapon within NJ - keeping all within the law.  So naturally, the question here is - keeping the threaded muzzle as the one legally present feature on my rifle, what can I install in the pistol grip portion of the rifle that would not be considered a pistol grip according to NJ law? The law defines a pistol grip as “a well defined handle, similar to that found on a handgun, that protrudes conspicuously below the action of the weapon, and which permits the firearm to be held and fired with one hand.” The one idea I have is to install a Sparrow Dynamics grip along with a Magpul fixed stock which makes it impossible to grasp with one hand - pictured below is the stock with the adapter for a sling plate, I’d keep the straight adapter on instead (see image w red arrow) which does not allow a notch for the possible slip of a thumb around the grip.  And yes, I am willing to sacrifice my shooting comfort in NJ to enjoy real freedom in PA.  Please let your wisdom and opinions rip fellas, and thank you in advance. God bless.
    • Your going to need water pressure and filter, i have inline filter on my ice machine, i have one that will make 50lbs in a day, 12lbs is not much. if only want 12lbs they make countertop ice machines that are in the 200 range i think will suit you for what you need. like this, Frigidaire 26 lb. Countertop Ice Maker EFIC117-SS, Red Stainless Steel - Walmart.com - Walmart.com i would use filtered or bottle water in ice maker.
