Pandemic Shopping - Curbside Pickup & Delivery

Recommended Posts

I have recently decided not to venture into stores for groceries with a D-I-Y mask. (No, I'm not cowering in my living room in a state of panic, lol). I am sure I'll eventually get this virus (most of us will) - and chances are I'll be perfectly fine. But, until we know a bit more about WHY the otherwise healthy people have died, I've decided to err on the side of caution. Why?... Because I work at home and live alone, so frankly, it's easy for me!  Mind you, I'm not recommending that approach for anyone else - each to their own!

That said, if others are of similar mindset, I thought it might be nice to have a thread dedicated to places that either deliver food or have curbside pick-up. In my area, the major grocery stores were SWAMPED with requests for curbside pickup - so much so, that they immediately curtailed that service!  Is this happening in other areas? Anyway, I'll be doing one small Amazon order tonight to plug the very minor gaps in my pantry... I just did a curbside service today… and (god forbid we're still in this situation several weeks down the road), I may be interested in other options - places that deliver steaks, or seafood, etc.  (I would be interested in those sources regardless of the current situation actually - I love the convenience of mail order, but don't usually do it for foodstuffs!)

Recommendations are welcome! Please let the other posters know if it's national/delivery, and if it's a local business, what county it's in and whether it's delivery, curbside service (or both). Pls provide some contact info like a website.

OK, I'll get this started w/2 businesses in my area...

  • Hunterdon County - Lebanon Cheese Company - https://lebanoncheese.square.site/ - curbside pick-up (website mentions local delivery, though I'm not sure if there's a minimum order size). I've shopped here over the years. It's a limited selection, but what they have is tasty!  Their main business is providing fresh Italian cheeses (ricotta, mozzarella, burrata, etc.), imported Italian cheeses, and cheese-filled pastas (raviolis, manicotti, etc.) to restaurants in our metro area. They also maintain a tiny little office for retail sales to the general public. I suspect their curbside service is new (due to COVID-19). I was just there today. You order, pay and set the pick-up time through their online ordering system, then call them when you arrive in the parking lot, and they'll come out "all masked up" and pop the carton right in your trunk. Easy-peasy.
  • Somerset County - Chester Meat Market - https://chestermeatmarket.com/home - curbside pick-up - a really excellent butcher shop! Good quality cuts of meat & their hotdogs are simply the best. I haven't been there in a long time, but my friend's fiancee is like a Chester Meat Market junky - he's been making a weekly pilgrimage to their store during all of this pandemic stuff (can't keep a good man away from his grill even in a pandemic apparently). I learned they recently added curbside pick-up. I don't see online ordering on their website, but apparently you can call the phone number on their website and give them an order for curbside pick-up.

It seems I've FINALLY found a purpose for Facebook! My town's Facebook page is full of info. Here's another local suggestion for anyone near Milford, NJ.

  • Hunterdon County - Phillips Farms - https://www.phillipsfarms.com/  - curbside pick-up at their farm stand in Milford, NJ. I haven't been here before, but unlike some places, these people aren't raping & pillaging on price! How refreshing. If I decide to do a fresh produce run, they'll get my business for that reason alone.

I have bought a lot of supplies from Vitacost.  Good prices and selection, from canned/jar, dry rice, beans, pasta, crackers, snacks, etc.

I can always find 10%-20% coupons with a few minutes search, and free shipping over $50.  They pack things very well too--I have had a few breakages, and it is very easy to do refund or replacement on their website.

I started ordering a lot about 4 weeks ago, and the last two weeks noticed a lot of out-of-stock, but it seems to be coming back gradually.

My wife loves the Chester meat market. We're very fond of the salmon, steaks, stuffed mushrooms, chicken tenders, and stuffed clams. I'm sure the rest of their products are great as well. Oh! I almost forgot about the gelato! It's great as well!

I just received a delivery order from Walmart in Lanoka harbor. Waited over 2 weeks for a delivery date. half the items were out of stock!' Local shoprite has 1 hour wait to get in store.

Little background. I am 6'2, 290, always worked construction, Very strong! Very large human.

Well, 12-24-19 started with fever, went to 104-105 for 2 days, Tried all the normal, 12-27 went to Deborah, spitting blood, fever of still 104-105. Immediately put me in ICU. Wife works in Deborah & knew shit was hitting the fan! Pumped full of antibiotics for 10 days. Went septic in the blood, Needed 2 transfusions. Finally cleared up, BUT blew out my kidneys, They are the first to go!

Now Dyalisis 3 days per week for life. They say most likely I had the virus!!!. Not sure if I can get again. That is the only explanation for the body going septic,

End of story! Because of this I don't relish standing in line!

Sorry to hear about the kidney issues but glad you're still going to be around. Take care and stay healthy. They should test you for antibodies to make sure what you had. We need all the data we can get on this thing.

When I watch what people are going thru, I don't even remember news year!. When they started giving me transfusions=really scary! I was healthy with NO issues Xmas eve. Then over night it hit. Shot up to 104. Tried eating Tylenols, NO effect! Chills then sweats while chilled, 27th, my wife said you are going to emergency. They had no knowledge of the virus. Had infectious control, specialists, all head scratching. Nurse 24/7 on my care. Always had 1 or 2 antibiotics on intro.

I guess I see now pretty lucky, that I only lost my kidneys.

If someone, and we know whom he is, offers you meat with fruit in it, don't go for it. Bats eat fruit. Six degrees of separation and all that.

Seriously, that's an horrific story. I'm glad you pulled tru.

It's difficult even thinking about it. Sorry, this is my first posting about it, got out of hosp. 1-10-20

Dave, you have a fellow sufferer here. I have a type of Sarcoidosis. Have had 104-105 fevers at least 3-4 times. Complications from cellulitis & pneumonia too. On intravenous antibiotics by the gallon. I am also on prophylactic antibiotics. Enough about me. I'm just glad you are doing better. Sorry about your kidneys.

They deluged me with antibiotics and transfusions. Don't forget this was very early, not sure if they knew what they were dealing with! I had infectious disease, there every day, Sort of shaking their heads. When I went septic, Had a nurse almost with me 24/7. I kad a puke bag when I spit up blood. Not a pleasant rememberance!

For those near Boundbrook.  I have never been here (yet) but one of my foodie friends likes them a lot.

I've seen them advertising on Facebook with specials & prepared meals.  I'm sure they have or would offer to bring it out and place it in your trunk for you.
