Pistol permit delay?

I bough Beretta 92X. Assuming that I will get permit but it seems like it’s not going to be here soon. So if you want I could sell it to you, it’s still packed at FFL dealers place...I am not even sure if it is legal or is there another million years paper work involved in it ...

Have you contacted ANJRPC Strikeforce yet? They are here to help. If the State Police already did the background check, the town has 30 days to issue the permit as stated in law. I don't want to deprive you of the awesome 92X, I been hearing great times about them.

I did contact them sent email with all detail. It’s been couple of days and I assume under circumstances they have limited mobility. So giving them couple of more days. I am also planing to get life membership of ANJRPC. This is the last thing I wanted to do that tussle with police while they are under so much unnecessary scrutiny. I have also simultaneously contacted couple of lawyers too! Let’s see if anything yield any result!

Is your NJSP background check done?

After few calls and couple of email...I received a email stating please provide the proof of employment. Is this a new step? Has anyone had to do this?

This is why I state self employed (or unemployed is even better).

GTFO, no way do I want the cops calling my place of employment.

And, before the "that never happened to me replies".

Last PP applied for I had a Det. call me asking for my employer info.

Holy cow! See if ANJRPC can help you out, and you have to deal with a State Police Barracks?

Thanks to this thread, I seen the StrikeForce link and already contacted them. I do, and the firearms officer at the barracks actually gives me the time of day when I call to ask about current status, but I’m still waiting. I guess I’ll just wait longer....

Just for comparison...

When applying for handgun permits in Madison in the late 70's the first question was 'why do you want a handgun?'. After I got past that and submitted the application it was about three months of waiting. Then finally, after calling for about the fifth time and getting the runaround I asked to speak to the Chief. After a brief hold the answer was 'you can pick them up this afternoon'.

After moving to Randolph about three years later, I applied for permits and had them in my hand in less than 10 calendar days. Several times. Chief Booser understood his oath and responsibility and didn't play politics.

Up until about three years ago I experienced permit delays anywhere from three to ten months out of NJSP Sussex Station. Then a new firearms trooper was installed and the wait time dropped to about four to six weeks. I believe some changes were also made in the Firearms Unit in Trenton over time which improved the process a little bit more after that. And now of course the permits come through already extended so they're good from the get-go for 180 days.

So in my experience the primary factor is the people involved, not the system they use.

Absolutely right! People are the key factor.

You do realize that you just confessed to lying on the ST-033 (or FARS equivalent) on a public forum. That right there is enough to deny you any firearms. Just sayin'

I never had to deal with a NJSP barracks as an issuing entity, but if I am understanding previous posts - your permits will be printed at NJSP headquarters in West Trenton and then they may wait for inter-agency mail to reach your specific barracks, What I'm saying is, it may still take a considerable amount of time before you actually have permits in hand. Be patient.

From what I hear, a remedy to the above is in the works. No more paper permits - electronic ones. Once you have been approved all a dealer has to do is download your electronic permit to complete the transaction. Not sure how/if they are going to integrate NICS into that, but it is another step in the right direction. If we have to live with this draconian permitting system, they can, at the very least, make it efficient. I would guess that a "state mandated system" and "efficient" are probably oxymoronic.

Yeap...I got email from Trenton that it was printed and mailed to local police station on 6/19/2020...so hope that this week would be end of this saga!!! I really hope that system transfer to electronic system soon and everyone involved with it get relief! I am in IT and I can tell you that technically that is project of max 6 month to year but bureaucratically and politically it’s different issue!

I happened to stop by my FFL yesterday and they had a sign up that there were over 1,200 requests in the queue stretching back to Friday.

After the St. Louis self-defense incident the clamor for guns and ammo is only going to get worse.

It is from the FFL side.  On the NJ NICS side on the backend - it is not.  Hence the backlog.

Backlog is taking forever.

I applied on FARS for permits on June 1st.  Yesterday (June 30th) I got the Status Update: Criminal History Check completed email message.  All reference checks were done by June 2nd.

NJ NICS system at its finest.  Still have to run a NICS for each purchase even with a P2P.  I put one in on Saturday AM, didn't come back until this morning.  And now i've added a PPQ to the collection.

Total time for me is 93 days. 63 days after criminal background check...and looks like it’s still not over until FFL dealer gets final approval.

Plus don’t they get NICS report before issuing the permit? So our excellent system is redundant and useless...what’s the point of wasting so much (tax) money just to fake the gun control?

No, NICS is separate from your permit.  A NICS check must be run at point of sale for each purchase.

The point (by design) is to make obtaining a firearm in N.J. such a major intrusive hassle as to discourage all but the most determined.

So far it has worked quite well with N.J. gun ownership rates among the lowest in the nation.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.

Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
