oh nice.  almost looks like I'd be better off getting the BT adapter for my V1G1 at this point then.

I will just say that the Ka Range on the V1G2 is AMAZING.

I have had my V1G1 since 1995.   I know it very, very well.  It's been upgraded at least 4 times, maybe more.

This new one is a whole new level of Ka range.   You get Ka that seems like a false...you drive an extra minute...and Then you see the cop, way off ahead.  It's bizarre.

Last night on the way home.

Two things of note in the video.

1.   Passing those cops the V1G2 was registering 8 distinct radar sources.

2.  I DID slow down when it first started barking.  Was it a save for me?  Maybe.  For the other guy?  Not so much.

Dang - ok now I definitely need one.  Edit:  Ordered one - they're slightly backordered but it's ok I'll wait lol.

I've had a V1 since 1995.   I feel naked without it.

Waze is great and all, but the combo of the two is best.   I usually fire up Waze on the way home from work and if it tells me to go 208, I turn it back off and go 208.   If it tells me RT80, it means 208 is a sheetshow and I leave it on.   The V1 is always on.

Do you use any of the 3rd party apps?  Been looking at the Vortex Radar review and he recommends V1 Driver and JBV1.

I have dabbled with JBV1.   I am just not sure I need all that.  I want a Ka Brap, Brap.  All the rest is fluff.

I DO like that I can configure the V1G2 via JBV1.     I do run JBV1 on occasion when I'm going somewhere new, since the arrows overlay Waze.    For my normal commute, it's not on.

Yeah - I do want the overlays and everything.  Best part - it's free.  I'll dabble with it when I get further setup.  Definitely looking into the under-mirror mount as well.  Suction cups always fail on me over time.

The Valentine one suction cups are known to be the best of the best.   My V1 has NEVER, EVER fallen off in 25 years.  My Garmin with the original mount fell off once a week.  My replacement "doesn't fall off" garmin mount falls off every couple months when we get temp swings.  The V1?   Rock solid.

Good to know - I'll hold off on spending money on that for now.  Does it have a quick detach?  Definitely going to want to remove it when I'm parked at work.

Squeeze and remove.  Simple.

My real question is, would the V1G1 have worked as well?
Not trying to be a total cheapsake, but I'm still not seeing massive compelling evidence to swap/upgrade, other than the connectivity and user-firmware upgradablility.

For me it's three things.

1.  The Ka range is insane.  I recently did a Florida trip and there were a LOT of ranged Ka way out of sight.   I thought it was falsing at first, turned out it was just detecting it WAY WAY further than I was used to.

2. The collision/proximity falsing is non-existent.   I did have the latest firmware on the old V1 but Hondas and Mazdas were always a problem.    Now?  With every band on, the V1 is quiet.

3.  The laser falsing due to sunglare is non-existent.    It was enough on the old V1 that I turned off laser.   Laser is super hard to protect against without jammers, but I did once get a laser save many years ago.  I got a flash, got shut down on speed, then came a long tone as he was hitting me.   Eventually I turned it off.  Currently on now, haven't got a single false yet.

Yes, it's $500 or $389 on upgrade.   That's one ticket if you get dinged on insurance but you're also right in that the old one is still good.  It is just not as good.

From what I was seeing on the Vortex Review (https://www.vortexradar.com/2020/05/valentine-1-gen2-review/) if you have a Gen1 it may not be worth it to upgrade, unless you want the bluetooth functions without the separate unit.

Yep - I'm currently without one - now that I'll be driving more to work, I figure it's time to get one.  I had an old Escort Passport x50 8500 but that thing is now like 15 years old and was having issues towards the end of it's run so I figure why not get something top of the line.  I definitely like the phone API stuff too.

I've had mine for longer than I can remember.  I've never sent it in, because it always seems to be performing just fine.  I stay local, within the 4 or 5 state radius and it's been great.

Me too it just works and using Waze as a combo it works very well for me. I have K band turned off KA and laser but I might turn the laser detection off. Volvo’s always set it off. That being said, the new model intrigues me .

V1 Gen2 arrived.  Will set it up in the car this evening and tinker with the programming and the JBV1 App.

Awesome.   I've become quite fond of mine.  I run it on little L, not big L.    It mutes out the occasional K band proximity radar so I don't even notice it frankly.

I do have a remote display from my old one. It works but the mute button on it does not.  I think it's slightly not compatible.

Test fit it today on the windshield - a few hours later when I checked - it fell off.  I may try the larger suction cups, but if that doesn't work I'm definitely getting the rearview mirror mount.

Does your windshield inside look like a sneezeguard at Chuck-e-cheese?

Did you clean it?  I'm not kidding, mine has never fallen off.  It's been in a bunch of cars.   I usually put the V1 in the mount and shove it at the window when I'm switching between my car and wife's.  When I went to FL recently, it came out of my Acura, went into wife's CRV and back into my Acura.   It never fell off.   Maybe it's your technique.

Yes, it's clean - I went and detailed everything and cleaned the windshield inside and out lol.  Gonna check on it and futz with it later.  Need to play around with the charger cables, etc as I'm running out of space.

So I had a KA intercept today.

I'm coming up a rise on 208.

From the time I get the first brap until he's in full detection range is 43 seconds.  From the start to finish when we pass each other is 53 seconds.  Doing the math, approaching at 60mph(probably faster) for 106 seconds(53 for him, 53 for me)  measures to around 9000 feet, OVER A HILL!!!!

Of course there is video :

You got a Gen1 to run in parallel with it?

Would be really interested in some real-world unedited comparison.

Sold the Gen 1.    I ran the Gen 1 almost 25 years.     It was never like this.    This is happening enough that I no longer think I'm catching a cop off a side road.     It happened a bunch of times on my trip to FL.    Same thing, 30-40 seconds later I finally see the cop.   It's so long I think it's falsing, but it isn't.   Just amazing range.

I found a decent looking one on Amazon - reviews look good and found one with a fitment and pics from another Subaru like mine.

I was going to go with the Blendmount, but that's pricey (with "FRIEND125" code for 12.5% off + shipping it came to $92) and out of stock for my car fitment.
