ATF and pistol braces... What now?

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately there is no 'what now". The ATF has been for many months now stewing over this debacle. IMO, I feel it actually is warranted. Since there is no official ATF guideline for application of the law we have nothing new to reference here.

This is the issue stemming from hard style pistol braces, and imo the firearm market is on its way to shooting itself in the foot. Companies can't be happy unless they jump on the bandwagon, and develope a brace. SB really has a good product and certainly isn't a stock.. but most other offerings by all standards are just super uncomfortable stocks. Since they have been moved already into the accessory category, it makes a lot of opinions unclear as to what the future may hold. Perhaps they will revise a list of acceptable braces that meet a standard.

A lot of good braces, like Jack mentioned, have gotten ATF approval letters prior to releasing them. Think it's going to be a kick in the arse and the legit companies will fight it. Screw the ATF. They  are useless just like the FCC. 2 agencies that should have been removed years ago.

I can't remember who said it, but for some time now there has been a concern that the ATF was going to ban hard plastic paddle braces. Perhaps that certain feild agents were even willing to charge people. It wouldn't be the first time individual atf agents just made up their own opinions likes the LOP one.
