1LtCAP 4,259 Posted June 21, 2020 just used it for the first time. it wasn't horrible. don't like the fact that they charge us an extra 3 bucks. but oh well. anyway.....my references. one is back already. the other says he hasn't gotten the email yet. my understanding was that the reference emails were automatically triggered when the form was done, and were sent instantly. am I wrong? has anyone had issues this way? Krdshrk 3,872 Posted June 21, 2020 Should have gone out instantly - did they check their spam email? It should have come from [email protected]. Also - are you sure you typed their email address correctly?

I triple checked their email....and even texted a picture of the confirmation form showing their email addy...and they said it was right. claimed he checked spam twice..... 1LtCAP 4,259 Posted June 21, 2020 i'll hafta wait'll Monday, 'cause I don't wanna bug him on sunday…... I just don't wanna give em any excuse to take longer. if the email didn't go through, what recourse do I have?
Krdshrk 3,872 Posted June 21, 2020 If the email didn't go through, contact your local PD and give them the confirmation number - they may be able to update the email address and resend it.

This. It happened to me too the first time I used FARS. My one reference didn't get the email and my PD had to resend it, they also said if for some reason he didn't get it the second time they would send one via snail mail for me. I just applied for new permits last night and this time the same reference received it right away so it seems to be just a glitch.

1LtCAP 4,259 Posted June 23, 2020 so I called my pd this morning, and explained to them what was going on. they said it was fine and that they could do that for me. when their system was back up and running. said they'd call me. weirdly, my second reference went through a couple hours later...... 1LtCAP 4,259 Posted July 24, 2020 initial app was 19th. second reference returned 22nd. today isa month, and no further updates. i guess they're back to their old ways, and i'm not gonna see this pistol till after the new year.......zero updates since the 22nd. Krdshrk 3,872 Posted July 24, 2020 They're saying it's because of the high volume of applications... Took 30 days for my state-side background check via FARS to clear. I'm at over 50 days now and the last time it took 19...
1LtCAP 4,259 Posted July 24, 2020 i'm kinda not willing to give them that excuse. they need to do what you or i would do at our business....bring on more people to handle the load. but i get what you're saying sir
Handyman 5,682 Posted July 24, 2020 I bet if the state employee paycheck printing system somehow got backed up, they would find a way to get it caught up.

1LtCAP 4,259 Posted August 15, 2020 i called my towns pd today. i didn't call to find out when my permits would be ready, 'cause i know things are screwy right now. i called to find out how things proceed now since i got the email from the portal that their background check was done. i told the lady that i wasn't calling to be "that guy", then started asking her questions. she spent a good 15 minutes on the phone chatting with me. she even went to check to see exactly where my application was, without me asking her to. in my town, there's 78 people in front of me. there's 2 detectives that do these as time permits. that's actually better than a few years ago when there was only 1 detective doing it. she spent the time talking about how the number of applications has exploded, mostly due to the current events. she'd also mentioned something else that i believe slows down the process. she feels that with the online application, people that would fail a background check seem to be applying more, since they don't have to come in to the dept. at this point i mentioned to her that i'd rather it still be that way....that i felt a thousand times more comfortable filling out the application, coming down to the station and handing it to an officer. anyway.......sadly i've still got a wait. one of my 2 permits is taken by a g19. i'm not sure what my second permit's gonna be used on as yet......
InFamous 311 Posted August 15, 2020 @1LtCAP we got our background check email the same day. This morning I received the Application Approved email, and to wait until my local PD contacts me to pick them up. So on the State's end, we're close!
InFamous 311 Posted August 20, 2020 Update: So on 8/15 I received the application approval email as stated above. On 8/18 (yesterday) I got the call from my local PD that my permits were ready. I went yesterday and picked them up. When I got home they were dated 8/11...

njJoniGuy 2,129 Posted August 20, 2020 Put in my change of address and request for 2 P2P (how could I not??) on Sat night. By Sunday night, both had replied and I got emails to that effect. Today I got an email my bg check was complete. Now let's see how long it takes this notoriously slow muni to finish me up.

I'm hoping this ships out soon, I ordered 8/7 but it's supposed to be 4-6 week backorder. https://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/frames/pfc9-serialized-frame-for-g19-23-std-texture-black-sku100030050-115783-216633.aspx?sku=100030050

How's THIS for service? I just got a call from my NEW PD telling me my change of address FID card and my 2 P2P are ready for pickup. Made a 2PM appointment for this afternoon to get them in person. Unreal!!! How does 12 days from initial FARS entry to card and permits sound??? Truly unexpected from this historically notoriously slow twp who may still require spousal paperwork from married applicants. Luckily, my ex is gone and almost forgotten back to her native socialist Canada. But 12 days!!!!!!!!!! ETA: Picked up my FID card (new address) NO CHARGE My 2 permits are dated this past Monday, but for the level of service I got, I'm not going to bitch about losing 4 days. Now the challenge is to find something(s) I want!
Kevin125 4,772 Posted August 28, 2020 I have a friend still waiting. Initial application on June 19th I believe. I got the ref email on the 23rd and did it immediately. So a little past 2 months in a town I only had to wait longer than 30 days once. Even though the workload must be higher now due to the volume of apps, you’d think eliminating physical handling of at least some of the material would speed up the process. I wish they would realize this is not an efficient use of resources and tax dollars. They get all their restrictions with a simple NICS check. I haven’t used the new system yet for pistol permits but I suppose I will soon. The other thing I’ve noticed from what my friend relays is there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to get status. He had said local PD told him all they can do it wait. That seems like a shift backwards. Bummer.
