IDPA Intro class - August 29

Recommended Posts

I'm running my Intro to IDPA class next month.

There's quite a few on this forum that have done it and they seemed to like it. If you want an easy way to transition from a static port to shooting on the move consider this class.

Read the details and sign up here: http://idpa-intro.eventbrite.com/

Im new to this and signed up for this class, if I also want to do a qualifier, do I need to register with IDPA?

Yes. Go to http://idpa.com and register. Then you can give me your IDPA membership number so I can record your classifier in their database.

Stu:

Are the participants going to shoot the 72 round classifier COF - found here...

https://www.idpa.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IDPA_Standard_Classifier_Stages.pdf

Or the 5X5 classifier - found here...

https://www.idpaitaly.com/docs/2020 5x5-classifier.pdf

Just thought they may want to know so they can study them and know what to expect.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

ATTENTION PARTICIPANTS: Stu is a great match director and teacher. Also a hell of a shooter, especially considering he is a U.K. ex-pat (or maybe because of that). Enjoy your time with him and we'll see you at a match.

It will be the 5x5. There won't be time to do the 72 round version and the rest of the material I need to cover.

Stu, is there a minimum you need to run this class? I'd hate for it not to run because you didn't have enough people, but would also understand why. I reached out to a friend that expressed interest in competitions to see if he'd like to attend.

That sounds like cheating to me ;)

I would say the minimum to make it worth the day would be 6 - so 2 more than I have now. I can cut the number of helpers to make that work. I would like to have 8 or more.

The classifier is a standardized course of fire that is designed to be repeatable again and again anywhere in the world. There is the full course and the short course, but each is repeated. Therefore, if you've ever shot one once, you're already cheating unless you then shoot the other course. After that you have to be cheating. lol.

I'm not sure what to make of that - are you saying you colonials could have still won if you hadn't dressed in earth colours and hidden behind trees?

Official IDPA Target

Blade Tech has a nice IDPA kit as well, though I don't think it will arrive before you take the class...

That is a nice setup, quick question are the holsters required to have some sort of retention? (locking mechanism) for the gun so it cant be grabbed out of the holster by another person?  I have a safariland ALS type holster now .I think I will order it tomorrow looks like it has everything I need.

No, it's level 1 retention (Friction).  The Safariland ALS you have will work.  Just get a double mag holder.  Bladetech, Comp Tac, Etc.  If you really need I can lend mine out

I have been asked to run a class to prepare people for carrying a defensive firearm by my home range, Phillipsburg Pistol club.
It will be held on August 6th, from noon until approx. 4pm.
We will cover safe use of a holster and a number of defensive shooting techniques.
The class will finish with running each student through HQC1 and a certificate will be provided for those that achieve a passing score.
It is open to all, but members of Phillipsburg Pistol Club will have spots reserved for them.

I'm looking at running my IDPA Intro class a couple of times this year.
I'm trying to create a bit of separation between the classes and to run on different days of the week to accommodate those that have regular commitments on a schedule.
I have booked the range for August 29 which is a Saturday.
I also wanted to run it on Saturday, June 7 but the range is not available that day.
Is there any interest in a class on a weekday in June?
      Please let me know.

I am going to run another introduction to IDPA class in September. There are quite a few members here who have taken the class and followed up with going to matches and having a good time getting off the X.

If you have been wanting to get into practical shooting matches, but want a step up so you don't walk in blind, please consider this class.

      Sign up is here: https://idpa-intro.eventbrite.com

      Thanks for looking,

    • ALWAYS CHECK "THEIR" WORK!!!  The last one we had been subject to was a total hack job.  We fought it and got it corrected.  We weren't happy with the increase, but it could have been worse.
    • Yes, it's an estimate. By that estimate, we are the worst state in the nation. Life of Tax: How Much Tax is Paid Over a Lifetime | Self. This much of your lifetime wages go to taxes — where does NJ rank (nj1015.com)
    • Think so? Check your property card. My mother's house hadn't changed since it was built in 1952. But back in the 2oth century when the property taxes were skyrocketing, I went to look at the property card in the assessors office. Among other nonexistent features I found on it was a finished basement and two extra baths. Even better, the office manager tried to tell me that the arithmetic on the card (based on the features listed) that resulted perfectly in the property tax total, had NOTHING TO DO with the tax levied. The last assessment they did on our current home was all wrong. Fortunately I had the blueprints for the house and corrected all the mistakes in the assessor's measurements.
    • You're forgetting that we're much lazier now. Those lances were really heavy. If someone can't use a gun, it's hard to imagine them bothering to fight at all.
