jm1827 284 Posted July 15, 2020 OK, stupid question here. Before I start searching the internet, any suggestions on cleaning equipment for .17 caliber? Got done shooting mine today, went to clean it and just then realized that my .22 caliber stuff is way too big- duh!
Scorpio64 5,120 Posted July 15, 2020 It just so happens that a Q-Tip is the perfect size for .177. I use them to clean my air rifle. Of course, you can't just shoot the swab out like I do, so you will need a wood dowel or a cleaning rod with a nylon tip (so you don't ruin your rifling) that will fit the bore. snap the swabs off, dip them in your cleaning solution, and run it down the bore, repeat until they come out clean. Malice4you 627 Posted July 16, 2020 I was too cheap to buy a whole new setup for that rifle, so I went with bore snake. Long as you run it often, I'd try for every 150-200 rounds, seems to have been keeping things in check for me.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted July 16, 2020 My HMR is more finnicky than that. To get my best accuracy, I run a patch down the barrel about every 10 to 20 rounds. With a bore that small and the velocities reached, a dry patch just keeps the fouling to a minimum. My 17 HMR... Adios, Pizza Bob
