Actually, that's just what I do.... one of my favorite past times... Just get a can of this, or if you're really feeling a little timid, one in each hand.... works EVERY time!

I second the foaming spray.  Raid or Ortho-Max brand.  I had one last year that was the size of a basketball in a tree branch next to where my daughter parks her car.  Amazing we didn't see it until it got so big.  They sleep at night so I went out there and sprayed an 8 secound burst up the hole in the bottom of the nest then ran back to the house.  10 minutes later, just a pile of dead hornets on the ground under it.  I cut the branch down with a machete and sprayed the nest again for good measure.

The spray shoots out like 20 feet so you only have to get close, but night time is the time to hit the nest.  They're all in there and they can't see as well in the dark to get you if any happen to escape your surprise chemical warfare attack.

yep, same stuff I use.

Years ago I was cutting grass and went over & around an old tree stump where (I think it was)  yellow  jackets setup shop in the old buried stump. I couldn't hear them with the mower running so by the time they were in attack mode it was too late. I was running ripping my clothes off at the same time. They chased my azz from the back of the house to the front. My neighbor laughing and said "do it again" , its funny now but not then. I only got bit a few times and lucky I'm not allergic like some folks. I went back and night and torched them with gasoline.

a few weeks ago cutting grass in another area and seen another hole close to the fence line. didn't want to torch them because too close to  the other neighbors house so I use Raid (in your image) again at night. I loaded them up good and threw and 8 inch cinder block on it.

Oh, come on. You need to do that in the daylight. Make's it more challenging!! :mutley:     You like challenges, right?

Agree on the sprays. I’ve hit a few when pruning the Christmas trees. Once I’m sure I didn’t cut an arm or leg off running with a 6’ blade and lawnmower engine on my back I go back and hit it with spray. Then take 5% off the tag price.

Wait till nighttime, and soak it down with a can (or two, if it’s a big nest) of the wasp spray.
They won’t be active at night, and you’re most likely to avoid getting stung.

I have done this hundreds of times.

Its not completely exposed, so I’m not sure how much larger it is than what’s seen in picture. They watch my kid on mondays and although he’s too young to be left unsupervised, I would hate to think these things would get agitated and be on the attack since the container is under the deck.

Hit it with spray. Shut the doors to the storage area. Wait.  After an hour or so take a peak. If you can remove the cushions and stuff then hit it again.

This is what I’ve done before.

Hit it with the foam spray and lather it up good. They can't fly through that - it forms like a mountain of shaving cream around the hive. For good measure, I'd even throw one of those bug foggers in and shut the door.

Better living through chemistry.

I haven't hit something that big, but i destroy at least one sizeable nest a year. The foam spray has thus far been the best. It literally traps them, and it foams into the nest as well.

My suggestion is to wait until evening or early morning when the nest isn't active. You will kill 99% of them. You dont want to be hanging around when wasps are entering and leaving or searching for the hive after you hit it.

Douse it, and when the foam starts to fade, hit it again. That nest might need a few applications in immediate succession. The first applications traps them and softens the paper walls of the nest. The second one should punch through and fill the remaining nest.

You will probably use the entire bottle on it.

An exterminator could be used, but honestly.. not required if you can find the time a courage. The bottles say 20 feet spray distance, but I wouldn't bank on anything over 10 feet effective.

I actually bought the foam by accident, had no idea it existed... its really effective at making me confident in NOT getting stung.

He'll, maybe get 2 cans and akimbo that sucker.

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
