njJoniGuy 2,129 Posted August 28, 2020 Surprised no one has started this thread already. Heard about it on KYW-1060 while running errands. Additional 9.3c per gallon, making us the 4th highest gas tax in the USA at over 50c per gallon Eat shite and die, Gopher.
M1152 713 Posted August 28, 2020 Not surprise, he said he was going to raise taxes when he was running for gov so you know he’s going to milk the shit out of the covid fiasco.
kc17 622 Posted August 28, 2020 Knew this was coming as soon as they passed the law saying the tax would auto increase if not enough revenue came in. I'm only surprised it didn't happen sooner. If I recall correctly, it gets evaluated twice a year?
1LtCAP 4,259 Posted August 29, 2020 this one's not on him. this one's on the legislature. the rise in this tax was built in. if the expected revenue isn't generated, the tax is automatically raised.

bennj 215 Posted August 29, 2020 And it would be just as easy for the legislature to remove it, especially due to the overwhelming financial burden put on many of their constituents due to the covid fiasco (many of the same constituents who will blindly vote them in again so they can continue the pillaging). 1

Rob0115 1,105 Posted August 30, 2020 Only 4 years ago this was one tax that NJ did not less the nation in and in fact was either 2nd or 3rd lowest. Well why would an overly tax burdened state not wanna be compete to be among the highest like everywhere else. One might think with the precipitous drop in car traffic the roads would, in fact, need less maintenance. Silly me trying to make some sense of things. I read average price for gas in NJ was 2.19 so this is nearly a 5% increase. What’s the total tax now? Over 50 cents per gallon?

antiriad 10 Posted September 18, 2020 Weren't they supposed to decrease the state tax to balance this somehow? Now they blame the Coronavirus. https://patch.com/new-jersey/pointpleasant/nj-gas-tax-increase-due-coronavirus-crisis-officials So I am assuming it is permanent like the 9/11 hidden tax for airlines after 2001.
