DirtyDigz 1,793 Posted September 10, 2020 Looking for a recommendation for a gunsmith in/near Monmouth County for a friend. They have a GSG 1911 .22LR pistol which previously worked well but now has a lot of failures to feed/go into battery. They've cleaned it rigorously with no luck. They don't have the patience/temperament to try to diagnose the issue themselves.
124gr9mm 857 Posted September 10, 2020 Do they have the patience/temperament to do a bit of polishing to the slide? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W1SzhZoXuE
DirtyDigz 1,793 Posted September 15, 2020 Gun already has an aftermarket slide which is lighter than stock, don't think friction is the issue: https://www.cwaccessories.com/ Again, any recommendations for a gunsmith?
GRIZ 3,365 Posted September 15, 2020 Educated guess? Lighter slide may be cycling too fast.

Brisco 130 Posted September 15, 2020 No direct experience, but Howell Gun Works was recommended to me from more than one source.
DirtyDigz 1,793 Posted September 15, 2020 Thanks @Brisco - I had also heard about them previously but wasn't remembering them. I'll pass them on.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted September 15, 2020 Have they tried different magazines?

Wheeler2.0 14 Posted January 14, 2021 Did the problem ever get figured out? Interested in the final outcome.

Strangely enough it looks like it was related to the magazine. If magazine was filled to capacity problem would occur on first two rounds. If magazine was downloaded two rounds it ran fine. If magazine was downloaded two rounds it ran fine. Try some new, or newer, magazines. The rolls at the top of the body may have worn or straightened allowing the second round down to interfere with the top round clearing out of the mag. Downloading two rounds reduces the spring pressure enough that the problem doesn't occur.
