beeblebrox 2 Posted September 15, 2020 I feel certain this thread exists somewhere and the question has been answered already but I can't seem to come up with the magical combination of words to make search obey me. Apologies and thanks to those of you patient enough to answer the same questions over and over. I have the opportunity to purchase a sweet Dan Wesson 1911 at a reasonable price from a friend in PA. I have a valid permission slip from the state to purchase a pistol, and it has been more than 30 days since I last purchased one. In many cases I've found it's not worth jumping through hoops for a private sale transfer but for this particular firearm and the price, it's worth it to me to figure this out. I gather the PA seller will go to his LGS/FFL and the LGS/FFL will (something something) transfer it to my LGS/FFL where they will (something something) perform a NICS check and I will take possession of the pistol. Would any of you with more experience with this process be willing to outline the steps for me with more clarity? For example, does the PA FFL witness the cash transaction, do receipts need to be issued, etc.? As always, thanks!
Mr.Stu 1,884 Posted September 15, 2020 The simplest way is for your friend to drive to your NJ FFL and do the transfer there. There is no requirement for a PA FFL to be involved at all.
Krdshrk 3,872 Posted September 15, 2020 Your friend could also ship it directly to a FFL. My friend recently did this - shipped it directly to my preferred FFL w/ a copy of his DL

My friend recently did this - shipped it directly to my preferred FFL w/ a copy of his DL However it gets there, it's going to sit at the FFL for a few days waiting on NICS. You want to make sure it's an FFL that knows you and is willing to sit on it for that period.
beeblebrox 2 Posted September 15, 2020 Oh excellent. I was under the impression for state to state FFLs had to be involved on both sides. Makes sense now that I think of it, with auction sites etc. Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'd let my FFL know in advance. Lately I think their greatest concern is that I have the pistol permit in hand and that I'm not expecting them to "hold it for me" until I get one. 124gr9mm 857 Posted September 15, 2020 Good luck. Share some pictures when you finally have the pistol in hand!
