silverado427 10,552 Posted October 1, 2020 Yup on top of all the other bullshit the gas tax will increase 9.3 cents today.

10X 3,278 Posted October 1, 2020 Over 50 cents a gallon just in state fuel taxes now...and as I recall, NJ puts their gas tax revenue into the general fund, rather than earmark it for road repairs, as it should be.
Bklynracer 1,259 Posted October 1, 2020 They can raise it every October 1st based on the revenue shortfall from the tax, so with less people driving, not working, and leaving this state is the reason for the shortfall, tax goes up. Expect another increase next year. Especially if they keep things locked down People are struggling already, what better time to raise taxes.

deerpark 83 Posted October 4, 2020 They keep raising taxes, forcing people to flee, reducing the population, netting less tax revenue which then results in more tax increases... Maybe cut spending? If people could easily flee the state, what percentage of the NJ population do you guys think would simply leave? I would guess that 70% of the people would get up and leave NJ tomorrow if it was easy to do so.

JohnnyB 4,289 Posted October 5, 2020 Steve Sweeney will be our next Governor unless a really charismatic and qualified Republican runs and rides the Trump wave!

He wanted it bad, but the North Jersey contingent wanted Murph as guv to push him onto the national stage. Murph has failed miserably, so their current hope is for a Biden win and a cabinet position for Murph; which clears the way for Sweeney in 21.
Zabuca 158 Posted October 5, 2020 Fortunately I haven’t noticed a difference yet in gas prices around the areas I travel - north Hudson / Bergen counties
Bklynracer 1,259 Posted October 5, 2020 Strange. bought gas today at Costco, Regular was about same price $1.95 but super was $2.55. I never buy super and I know it's always more but I thought 20-30 cents not .

Maybe cut spending? Democrats will burn a state to the ground before they make meaningful spending cuts. Murphy had a very legitimate excuse to defer or reduce the state pension contribution this year, instead he illegally borrowed $4.9 Billion and forked it over to the fund. Then rammed through the millionaires tax and allowed the gas tax to jump 10% and Parkway tolls to increase..
